I am an Undergraduate Student at Vanderbilt University. With years of tutoring experience and a solid academic foundation, I am fully equipped to teach in various subjects at many different levels.

I am a long time Metro Nashville Public Schools teacher (in my 11th year). I currently teach second grade. My favorite subject to teach and tutor would be reading. I myself love to read and continue to be a life long learner. Showing students reading does not always have to be so painful brings light back into their life. My undergraduate B.S. degree is from The University of Tennessee, Knoxville-GO VOLS! and my masters degree is from Trevecca Nazarene University concentrating in educational leadership. I have served as an instructional coach helping the teachers in my building better serve our students and allow them to reach their goals. I have always known I would be a teacher. I can remember to this day playing "school" with my friends and an old discarded teacher's manual. My goal one day is to be in educational administration.When not tutoring or educating, I love to be at the water-beach or lake. In the fall when the weather is cooler, I enjoy watching college football, Predators hockey, and the sights and smells of Autumn. If I am not with a student in a classroom or at their home, you can usually find me volunteering with the Nashville Humane Association. Dogs are my second love!I am excited to help your child/student and watch them grow and change!

I believe that ALL students are destined to succeed in education in their own way and their own terms. Sometimes it just takes others longer to grasp the information being taught to them and that is okay! At Creighton University, I taught Rhetoric and Composition, World Literature, and also worked with students in the Writing Center. I earned a Master of Arts in Creative Writing from Western Michigan University, where I taught Thought and Writing.I love working with students one-on-one and creating a personalized learning experience through open communication. My goal is to give students the encouragement, the confidence, and the strategies to make their writing shine and to help them express their thoughts and ideas in the best possible way.I'm also a published writer with short stories in The Louisville Review, Hawai'i Pacific Review, Valparaiso Fiction Review, and The Nassau Review. My self-published dystopian novel Never Too Far was a semi-finalist for the 2013 Best Indie Book Award as well as a Living Now Book Award Gold Medalist for adventure fiction.

Although I've done a lot of schoolwork, I appreciate the difficulty some students have with difficult subjects (mine was Calculus), and trying to concentrate when studying is the last thing I want to think about.My goal is to help you plan out your studies so that you can maximize your potential with the minimum amount of work. Sometimes it's hard for some teachers to break down a complex topic for burgeoning learners because they themselves approach it from a higher level and can't think at a low enough level.After a year of science outreach in high-need Nashville public schools, I've found that I have a knack for breaking down complex concepts to an easy-to-digest format that incorporates math and literature comprehension into real scientific problems.Fortunately, the more I learned about a subject matter, the easier it has been to find meaning and see how it fits into a bigger picture.I want to help you understand things in a big-picture way with real-life examples (usually in the hard sciences). This hopefully will help you with comprehension and memorization.

From this I learned the feeling of satisfaction that comes from helping people learn and achieve things they might not have been able to otherwise.My academic content fields I tutor focus on history and grammar. I am a firm believer that the stories of humanity's past give us a better understanding of the modern world, and I hope to be able share share as many of these exciting stories as I can. I am also deeply involved in test prep tutoring. I have taken and tutored both the ACT and the SAT. I enjoy tutoring these tests because I get the opportunity to see students learn about the ways that they learn and take tests.
