I have been working in education for the past 11 years. After graduating from Texas A&M University where I received a degree in English Literature, I taught high school English for five years. I taught freshmen, sophomores, and juniors and prepared students for both the AP and IB tests. I also tutored students for the PSAT, SAT, and ACT tests. In 2012, I moved to Los Angeles to obtain a graduate degree in professional writing from the University of Southern California. While there, I tutored undergraduate and graduate students at USC in writing. I worked with students on research papers, class essays, business memos, creative writing, and more. My last year in LA, I taught at Fusion Academy, where I worked with students one-on-one on multiple subjects, including English, history, test prep, psychology, and technical and creative writing. When I moved back to Austin, I continued tutoring students because I enjoy the one-on-one atmosphere and feel it's highly beneficial to students. I worked at Berkeley 2 Academy, tutoring students in the SAT and ACT. I am excited to work with students through the Varsity Tutors platform and look forward to making progress in each student's educational career.

I believe that students learn best when part of a healthy and comfortable learning environment that is both challenging and nurturing. I work with my students to discover their particular learning style and use that style to teach the material. Patience is key in teaching because I want each of my students to feel comfortable to ask whatever questions may arise with the material. It's also important for students to eventually demonstrate they've mastered the material through independent practice. From these independent exercises, I can assess what we further need to work on.

When I'm not teaching, I love to explore places in Austin I've never been, including restaurants and hiking trails. I have two dogs and a cat who are my life, and I always have my nose in a book and am listening to another one in my car. I love spending time with my friends and am a sucker for a good movie. I'm always planning my next trip and excited to eventually visit all the places in the world I want to see!
