What is your teaching philosophy?
Different students have different ways of understanding different subjects. At the first instance, I try to understand the specific level of the student and move on from there. My first goal is to help the student understand the basic concepts, develop his/her self-confidence, and help him/her achieve the best results by focusing on his/her weakest points and solving as many problems as possible quickly and correctly.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
I usually find students learn best by working through questions or examples, but I am also happy to provide teaching of entire subjects from scratch.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
I feel I would be able to offer students an enquiry-based approach to achieve their mathematics skills. I believe it is essential to be approachable and to value each student according to their ability.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
I would be prepared to give students the opportunity to discuss their progress, give feedback, and help them to set goals to achieve their mathematics skill.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
I am a patient and understanding teacher, and have the experience to explain concepts in many different ways if need be. I strive to make the subject interesting and relevant, and also aim for my students to reach their full potential.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
I put 100% effort into my lessons! A wide range of online resources and classical textbooks are used, which are carefully selected to improve understanding. Also, supporting homework material can be provided after each tutorial that I highly recommend, as practice makes it perfect.
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
My approach to tutoring is flexible according to your child's personality, learning style and, most importantly, according to what you and your child wish to achieve through tutoring.
What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
With examples and exercises.
How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?
I will provide the necessary materials. All you need to provide is the enthusiasm to learn. You need to commit to a few minutes each day of personal learning.
How do you evaluate a student's needs?
I continually establish what is needed for the student and cover the problem areas thoroughly. It is satisfying to see people learn and gain confidence.
How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?
The first lesson is also an opportunity to get to know one another. I feel it is important to start with a solid foundation.
What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?
Whiteboard, examples and exercises.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
I will work with the student to quickly find the problems they are having with. I have a very warm and friendly approach with the students. While teaching, I develop lots of innovative ideas which make concepts easier to understand and makes my students fall in love with the subject. I make them practice varied level of challenging questions to master the subject.
