Hi! I am a recent graduate of Pomona College, and I have been tutoring students for the past couple of years. I majored in English literature and minored in French, so humanities subjects (including reading and writing for test prep) are especially fun for me. (Though I am very comfortable teaching math as well).I spent my junior year abroad: first in Montpellier, France, studying French literature and art history, then at the University of Cambridge, studying Shakespeare! I love to travel, and hope to do more of it in the future. I also enjoy helping students with their French language learning goals, so that they can get the most out of their travel experiences as well.I don't know about you, but I am also an extremely nervous test taker. I have developed several test preparation techniques that I would be happy to work with you on, so that you are confident and ready on your test day!I hope to hear from you soon! I am looking forward to working with you.

I attended the University of Washington for two years as an undergraduate and then graduated in Mathematics from Gonzaga University. At Gonzaga, my 300-400 level instructors would interact with the student on an individual basis (regularly and upon request), which taught me the value of interpersonal relationships in academia. I enjoy tutoring students who have an interest in mathematics or demonstrate a willingness to learn. I myself started very slowly in intermediate college math courses, but gradually the subject matter was known with practice, which eventually enabled me to appreciate math as an art. I see this work as a mutual advantage and I intend to pursue graduate studies by fall at the University of Washington while hoping to learn and teach along the way. My specialty areas are calculus, pre-calculus, trigonometry, geometry, and algebra. Advanced courses beyond calculus III may require preparation.

My Education PhilosophyA Good Teacher isI believe that a good teacher is organized, and can help the student realize their potential, and help each student as an individual. As a teacher, I will be well prepared. By this statement, I mean that I would have clear, defined objectives and requirements for my students. I should have a rough plan for the upcoming lessons. Then be able to adjust and tweak- based on students needs. Above all else as good teacher, I am aware of and embrace the fact that I am here for the betterment of the students- and that as a teacher the students are my first priority.A good teacher is encouraging and welcoming. I will be able to make each student feel confident, safe, and intelligent. I would have the students best interest in mind. I would like to understand each student as more than a student, I would like to understand them as a person. I want to benefit them as a person, and bring growth and change to them, to build a strong and positive foundation for their education, and their future.A good teacher is always improving. They are always adjusting their worksheets, assignments, lectures, demonstrations, classrooms, seating charts, etc. This is because a good teacher learns from their students. Every year the teacher has enhanced their skills because a new set of students has brought more experience and knowledge to that teacher. A good teacher is constantly learning. As a good teacher, that is what I will do.Children Learn Best WhenIn my opinion, children learn best when they have confidence in their ability to learn. The number one factor that affects student learning, according to me and my experience, is the mindset that they have about education, and school. If students have a growth mindset they embrace education wholeheartedly and enthusiastically, taking bad days as an opportunity to learn from their mistakes and grow stronger. If they have the misconception that they are not innately smart they will be intimidated of and discouraged from education. This is where a good teacher comes in.The Purpose of Education isMy purpose in educating is to better the future, and those who will lead it. The student in the academic school setting is more than just a student- they are a person as well. They learn much more than just academics. Educators have a great influence on students. It is my priority as a teacher to ensure that my students establish growth mindsets, as well as gain academic skills that will benefit them in the years to come.As an educator, I will strive to be a good teacher, to help children learn in the best way, and to carry out my purpose.

My name is Amanda and I would love an opportunity to tutor you! A recent graduate of Washington University in St. Louis, I am excited to be back in my hometown of Bellevue, WA. I graduated cum laude from the College of Arts and Sciences with high distinction in English and minors in Psychology and Communication Design, and hope to apply my analytical and communication skills to a career in law or public policy. While attending university, I spent my free time finding ways to positively impact and further educate my community through my involvement as a campus tour guide, writing tutor, sexual assault counselor, and Greek life leader. I love traveling and have visited over 25 different countries and am particularly interested in the ways that writing and culture have symbiotically shaped human history. As a college graduate and an alumna of a Seattle private school, I have personally experienced the pressures and difficulties facing most high school students. I love learning in any form and have taken the PSAT, ACT, SAT, SAT Subject Tests, and AP Tests, so I understand the difficulty in finding a way to master both the material and the tests. I am well aware of the challenges that standardized tests present and love working with students to come up with a tailored arsenal of strategies and approaches to make the test easier and less intimidating. I have years of experience with reading comprehension, essay writing, critical analysis (including the identification of tone, argument, style, etc), argumentation, and editing, and a strong record of working well with my students. My style of teaching is pretty low-key, and I strongly believe in the power of communication and open discussion to make sure that my students and I are able to find the best ways to achieve their academic goals. That being said, I also understand that a high schooler's time is limited and valuable, and endeavor to work closely with my students and their families to create both short-term and long-term goals to make sure that we stay on track; my priority is ensuring a comfortable space for my students while building up the confidence and knowledge that they need to ace their essays and tests.Outside of my academic interests and experiences, I am passionate about food and the outdoors. I value education, efficiency, wit, kindness, and the Oxford comma, and am constantly searching for new challenges and opportunities. I enjoy tutoring because it gives me a chance to develop a relationship with a student where we can work together to accomplish his/her/their goals. I love getting to know new people and try my best to tailor sessions to my students, so please feel free to reach out to me with any questions!

I love helping others, and tutoring is one way I can do that. I love identifying the strength and weakness in the student's base, and help him/her improve rapidly. I love motivating and building the student's confidence.Knowing that I enjoyed Math and Physics, I pursued an engineering major. I graduated in Civil Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology in 2011. I work as an engineer full time, and I do tutoring on a part time basis.I would be a great fit for students who want to work together on a regular basis and build their foundation for majoring in the Engineering and Science fields. However, I do welcome those who are simply looking for short term help.

Welcome! I am currently a junior at the University of Washington studying bioengineering and mechanical engineering. My desire to study bioengineering stems from my love and appreciation for human life. Life is truly fragile, and can be deprived in an instant or over a despairing process. Over time, I have discovered my duty to protect life through personal experiences, medical center volunteer work, and physician shadowing at Swedish Medical Group. There are still many medical problems in this world that have either too costly treatments, no treatment at all, or are entirely unknown to doctors. My current goal is to aid biomedical researchers in their devising of novel medical technology in the area of stem cell and tissue regeneration. My future goal is to either pursue a Master's Degree and Ph.D in bioengineering, or to pursue medical school. Outside of school, I enjoy volunteering in medical outreach events, partaking in biomedical research, and tutoring students to help them succeed! My passion for tutoring and teaching began back in elementary school. As a kid, I excelled in mathematics and often found myself helping other students understand the material. Students from a young age would describe how my teaching methodology made "so much more sense" than the way their actual teacher described. As I tutored fellow classmates, I discovered that I had a knack for not just teaching, but warming up to and befriending students. I did not think of tutoring as a relationship between student and tutor, but as a friendship where both the student and I can grow as individuals. I also realized that I experienced genuine satisfaction in tutoring students and watching them succeed, knowing that I played a role in their achievements. I continued to host these study sessions outside of school from back in elementary school all the way into present day college. As I entered high school, I began working part-time at a local Kumon Math and Reading Center, and also was an academic coach (teaching assistant) for an Algebra 2 class under the discretion of a teacher from MIT. At Kumon Math and Reading Center, I was quickly given the responsibilities of an assistant instructor, as my boss acknowledged my ability to teach, guide, prepare work packages, and grade work. I thoroughly enjoyed my time there, as I felt a great pride and happiness in seeing each student improve. My boss would designate the most difficult students to me, whether in academic difficulty or in attitude, and I learned many ways to help bolster a healthy learning environment for all kinds of audiences. I hope to apply my experiences from serving as a teaching assistant, instructing at Kumon, and hosting study sessions outside of school to Varsity Tutors, where I will set forth all of my knowledge and experience to help your student reach and exceed his or her academic goals while having fun all the way!

Hi! I graduated in June of 2012 from National Tsing Hua University, which is one of the best universities in Taiwan. Currently I am applying to the Applied Physics program for graduate school.I have experience tutoring visually impaired students in both math and physics aging from 11 to 16. Throughout the years, I have developed a style of bringing experiments into tutoring. I believe that combining real world with the textbook helps students understanding the concepts of math and physics.

I am an SDET (engineeer) working at Samsung's R&D center in Bellevue, WA. I received a competitive, full ride(tuition, room, and board) to Emory University where I studied Physics and Applied Mathematics.I also have extensive experience working in tutoring. One of my most enjoyable moments in undergrad was working as a Research Assistant at Semyung University in optimizing the instruction of curricula for incoming college freshmen.I believe in a problem based approach rather than a lecture based one. Most deficiencies in scores are caused by gaps in the student's knowledge. Through assessment, we can identify where these areas are and fill them so the student has an internally consistent view.
