3rd Grade Math

Multiplication, division, and more complex problem-solving strategies for third grade students.

Basic Concepts

Math Facts and Patterns

What Are Math Facts?

Math facts are simple multiplication and division problems you should know quickly, like \(2 \times 3 = 6\) or \(15 \div 5 = 3\).

Patterns in Multiplication and Division

Learning patterns can make math easier!

  • Commutative Property: \(3 \times 4 = 4 \times 3\)
  • Division and Multiplication are Related: If \(5 \times 6 = 30\), then \(30 \div 5 = 6\) and \(30 \div 6 = 5\).
  • Zero and One: Any number times 0 is 0; any number times 1 is itself.

Why Know Math Facts?

Quick recall helps you solve bigger problems faster and with more confidence.

Examples

  • Knowing \(7 \times 8 = 56\) helps you solve \(56 \div 8 = 7\) quickly.

  • Multiplying by 0, like \(0 \times 9 = 0\), is always zero.

In a Nutshell

Math facts and patterns help make multiplication and division much easier and faster.
