About Me

I enjoy helping students discover their talents, skills, and abilities on the path to reaching their full potential. As a child, I had to overcome many challenges in and out of school. I was successful because of supportive influences, and I wish to continue a legacy of support to others. I harbored a desire to support others in my high school years as I was a member of an organization, The Future Teachers of America. I tutored elementary children who needed extra support in reading and writing. My volunteer experience also includes tutoring adults in a literacy program. They did not know how to read or write. I have also tutored refugees from Viet Nam in their efforts to learn English as a second language. I currently have a home, in Brazil and have taught English as a second language to native Portuguese speakers. As a former elementary classroom schoolteacher, I taught migrant children with learning difficulties English with Whole Language techniques, which is a fun way to learn reading and writing. I have also taught English as a second language to students in a program who came from various Asian countries. They were new to the community college system in the United States. I have extensive experience instructing adult learners. In the field of telecommunications, I supported a call center as a documentation specialist and provided Just-In-Time training on new technology developments regarding cell phone infrastructure. I was also a learning consultant providing support to a residential billing and collections telephone call center. On the college level, I taught a variety of courses in the areas of sociology, philosophy, business administration, and doctoral dissertation development. These courses were on the associate, bachelor's, master's, and postgraduate levels. I currently give conference presentations to doctoral learners. I earned a BA in psychology and a Master of Arts in elementary education at Miami University, Oxford, Ohio. I earned a Master of Arts in Organizational Development and a Doctorate Degree in Human and Organizational Systems from Fielding Graduate Institute located in Santa Barbara, California. I provide tutoring in the fields of reading and writing on elementary and college-level academic writing. My favorite subjects to teach are beginning reading and writing and while I am not formally certified to teach the subject, I like tutoring English as a second language using an emersion approach.
