About Me

I'm a recent graduate of Stanford University, where I majored in mechanical engineering and minored in creative writing. In addition to tutoring, I am currently working as a journalist. I tutor high school history, chemistry, physics, geometry, algebra, calculus, English, and Latin. I prepare students to score well on the AP and SAT subject tests, as well as on the standard SAT. Additionally, as a professional writer, I am well-equipped to teach students how to improve their essays, for college or otherwise. I have also worked with gifted students as young as 8 who want to go beyond what their school offers. I have always wanted to be the best I can be in everything I do, and have worked hard to make that happen. At the same time, the journey hasn't been easy, and more than anything else, my mentors have helped me get where I am today. I am lucky to have had teachers who were playful, caring, and understanding, and still always pushed me toward excellence. That's the kind of tutor I hope to be. I ask students questions that help them reach the right answers through their own thinking. I encourage them to see learning as a fun puzzle with interesting, achievable steps. And I teach them the little tricks that can make a huge difference in an academic setting. I've found these strategies can help a wide variety of people: those applying to elite colleges who want to make their applications stand out, those pushing themselves to their limits, and those struggling with a particular subject or with the many responsibilities of being a student today. I hope to help the people I tutor become the best students--and the best people--they can be.
