About Me

I love math, and I love to help students succeed in math. I teach and tutor math at a community college. I tutor students in pre-algebra through calculus, and I teach algebra and statistics classes. For me, the delight in my job comes from developing relationships with students and watching them succeed in math and grow in confidence. My tutoring experience goes back to college, when I tutored fellow students as well as middle and high school students in the community. It was then that my passion for helping others learn math started. I have a Bachelor's degree in math from Middlebury College (VT). I also hold a Master's degree in Math Education from University of Phoenix, with a focus on curriculum and instruction. I have developed curriculum for a variety of courses, including a course in math study skills, and I have extensive experience in differentiating instruction for various students and working with math anxious students.

I believe in the ability of students to succeed in math. My role is to provide the information in the clearest way, engaging a student’s mind and providing the key resources to facilitate learning, while it is up to the student to bring an open mind and a commitment to work hard and follow through. Without these complementary roles student success is harder to achieve. Students need to feel that they can openly struggle with math and not be ridiculed or seen as stupid. I foster a safe environment which allows students to have their questions answered and not be left behind. All students deserve an education in which they are encouraged to participate without fear. Learning should also be fun. Math is a creative, fascinating and rich field. I want my students to experience that more than the drudgery they often feel.
