Practical Applications

Growing Your Own Plant

Be a Scientist at Home

Watching a plant grow is an exciting way to learn about life cycles.

What You Need

  • A small pot or cup
  • Soil
  • Seeds (beans or sunflowers work great)
  • Water and sunlight

Steps

  1. Put soil in your pot.
  2. Plant your seed about an inch deep.
  3. Water it gently.
  4. Place it somewhere sunny.
  5. Watch it grow and keep a diary of changes!

What You Learn

You’ll see your plant sprout, grow leaves, and maybe even make flowers or seeds. This helps you understand how living things grow.

Examples

  • Watching a sunflower seed sprout and grow tall in a sunny window.

  • Keeping a diary of how a bean plant changes every week.
