Hello, my name is Justin Quintana. I am a graduate from the University of New Mexico with a Bachelors Degree in psychology and chemistry and finished with summa cum laude honors. I am an aspiring physician and I also enjoy helping other people learn.

I am a graduate of the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (B.S. Environmental Science) and Texas A&M University (M.Ed. Science Curriculum and Instruction). Since graduating, I have dedicated my life to helping students of all ages understand the natural world around them better by teaching science and have felt a need to serve in public education (teacher and HS principal). I have worked with all age levels in public education, but feel the strongest connection to high school. I understand the importance of graduating high school and know how to get students to the finish line.I am passionate about Biology and teaching the subject I love in high school right now is awesome! I have a unique perspective on Biology due to my practical work experiences in science: USDA Forest Service (AK and NY) and 6 years of university medical research experience (SUNY and TAMU) with publications. I love linking real world science career information with the subject matter to bring it to life for students.In my spare time I love to grow plants, play Xbox, travel to National Parks and camp/hike in the woods with my wonderful wife and 3 dogs!

PERSONAL: I am a mother of five (5) children and two (2) grandchildren. My husband and I are truly blessed. I try and wake up each day with a positive attitude. It helps that I have four framed pictures that say courage, perseverance, determination, and destiny to begin my day. I love to read, do crafts, and outdoor activities.MISSION: When I moved to New Mexico 17 years ago, I obtained employment in a school so I could work around my children's schedule. I surely didn't expect to fall in love with my job and have a burning passion to teach. So...at 37 years of age, I returned to college to get my degree in order to fulfill my dream...of being a teacher. I have been a teacher ever since.EXPERIENCE: I have taught Kindergarten, 9th and 10th grade, and 2nd grade. 2nd grade is by far my favorite. I am grade level chair and the liaison with the NM Public Education Department. I am a Level III teacher with National Board Certification. I also organize and participate in many programs and teams as well as collaboration meetings to enhance our school and curriculum.STRENGTHS: As a teacher I have a tremendous amount to offer both staff and students. I have a passion to learn and teach. I have an outstanding record of achievement and the ability to lead and motivate. I have a positive professional attitude with pride in personal performance and continuing education. I have the ability to transfer skills of creativity and organization to maximize student achievement and engagement.

As an educator my passion is to help students overcome their fear, struggle, and difficulty with mathematics. I see the struggle and I dealt with it myself as a student. My passion is building confidence in students while helping them to make sense of the mathematics.

For much of my life, I have expressed an interest in sharing my knowledge with others the same way a teacher does for their students. I long to play a teacher/mentor figure in my career in which I transmit knowledge on the subjects I am most passionate about and therefore make an impact on my students and my community.Throughout my career, I have had much experience working with other students in group efforts as well as helping other peers to clarify certain concepts that I understood more easily. I have worked informally tutoring other students, which has helped me gain a better understanding about what students struggle with the most when trying to study Spanish.I graduated from Rio Rancho High School in 2013 and from University of New Mexico in 2017 with my Bachelor's degree in History and Spanish, both with Honors. I take a particular interest in Latin American and U.S. Hispanic history as well as Spanish grammar and linguistics.I tutor Spanish at all levels and various areas of History. Spanish, however, is my favorite subject to tutor because I have luckily had the luxury of growing up bilingual and with the ability to grasp the mechanics of the Spanish language, such that I have developed the mind of a linguist, skills that I am more than happy to share with others.With respect to my tutoring philosophy, I firmly believe that the best teachers teach what they are most knowledgeable about. With that said, to be an effective tutor, it is crucial that I not only share my knowledge but continue to be invested in how the field continues to change as well as the demands on students in learning a language in our modern, globalized world. Furthermore, it is the job of the teacher/tutor to be a guiding a mentor that teaches their pupil the skills needed to teach themselves.Academia is an important part of my life. However, to pursue and continue working in one's niche, it is important to maintain a healthy lifestyle. I take much interest in pursuing a fruitful life of virtue and health. I take much interest in caring for the Environment as well as keeping a healthy, active lifestyle. I especially take interest in self-help and entrepreneurship to help me connect with my inner self and live a holistic, satisfying life while making a difference.

I have known since the age of 7 that my passion is mathematics. I guess some would consider me to be a math "geek" since I love numbers and I love all levels of mathematics. I even solve problems in my sleep! Scary, huh?! I have taught and tutored secondary and post-secondary students for 40+ years. I want to help all students experience academic success in mathematics by building self-confidence in problem solving.My hobbies and interests include reading murder mysteries, guest services, singing, walking, traveling, and entertaining.

All students have a path to progress; including students with disabilities. A student and teacher must discover the best learning strategies for effective and efficient progress, together.

I believe that a proper education is crucial in this day and age for all students. As a tutor, I hope to help my students ensure that they fully understand all of their course material so that they are set up for academic success.
