During my time in college, I tutored elementary school reading and writing with an organization called America Reads Challenge, which is dedicated to providing quality education to children living in underprivileged areas of Pittsburgh. I am an alumnus of the Johns Hopkins University where I received both my Bachelor of Arts in Public Health Studies with a focus on International Health and my Master of Health Sciences in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology with a focus on Reproductive Health. I have experience working with students as a tutor for an introductory biology course and as a teacher's assistant for a course on the management of health emergencies in large populations. I tutor subjects focused on the life sciences particularly biochemistry, molecular biology, cellular biology, and evolutionary biology. These are my favorite subjects because I have a passion for experiencing nature, and I believe that studying the life sciences helps to attain a better understanding of nature and our experiences. I am passionate about helping students as a tutor because I believe that students should be encouraged to flourish academically based on their own learning styles instead of being forced to conform to mainstream methods. My teaching philosophy is based on two simple rules: 1) Identify and utilize the student's learning style, and 2) Practice, Practice, Practice in order to increase comprehension and information retention. I am able to manage challenging behavior effectively, conduct activities safely and communicate with people from diverse backgrounds. Further, I am very creative and enjoysourcing materials that make learning interesting.
