About Me

I believe in the power of the imagination, and I look for the spark of inspiration in every student with whom I work. Reading, writing, and the imagination give us a bigger, more vibrant life, and I love to share that treasure with anyone who seeks it. I tutor English composition, reading, grammar, and creative writing. I have worked with students for over six years, and I have a Masters degree in English, emphasis on Poetry. I particularly love tutoring composition and creative writing. They represent the head and the heart, both of which combine to make a full person. My tutoring style harnesses my background in video game development. I focus on the student as "Player One." I support and guide them to the skills they need to accomplish their goals, and I create a playing field of clear expectations where they can make meaningful choices. Students aren't made for assignments; assignments are made for the benefit of students. Outside of academics, I spend most of my time with my wife and new son as well as with friends. Beyond that, I read, write creatively and critically, and practice the art of video game design. I also play my banjo and study Japanese.
