The Five Senses and How We Use Them

What Are the Five Senses?

Our five senses help us learn about the world:

  • Sight: See shapes, colors, and movement.
  • Hearing: Listen to music, voices, and sounds.
  • Smell: Notice flowers or food cooking.
  • Taste: Enjoy sweet, salty, or sour foods.
  • Touch: Feel hot, cold, soft, or rough things.

How Senses Help Us

Senses keep us safe (like hearing a fire alarm) and help us enjoy life (like tasting ice cream).

Using More Than One Sense

Sometimes we use many senses at the same time, like eating (taste, smell, sight) or playing outside (sight, touch, hearing).

Caring for Our Senses

Protect your eyes with sunglasses, clean your ears gently, and always wash your hands before eating!

Examples

  • Smelling a flower in the garden.

  • Hearing your friend call your name.

In a Nutshell

Our senses help us learn, explore, and stay safe.
