After teaching college for eight years and moving to the corporate world, I want to use my experience to help others improve their skills and understanding of English, Speaking, Business and Government.During my spare time, I can be found at a Royals game, reading, exploring the Nelson or at the Lake of the Ozarks.

I am a full time student at the University of Missouri Kansas City. I am pursuing a degree in middle school education with an emphasis in mathematics. Though I find all aspects of education important, I have a passion for mathematics. I want to share my love with mathematics with others. While tutoring or educating, I strive to make learning fun and interesting for all my students. In my free time I enjoy traveling, cheerleading, and reading.

My name is Christina Chandler and I love working with and tutoring students because it really gives me a chance to see and celebrate their successes up close. I mean that's why we become teachers! I love the opportunity to see those light bulbs moments. Being a technology teacher I don't always get to practice some of those other wonderful content areas we have to work on in college, such as English and History. Tutoring give me an opportunity to get back in touch with subjects. I have had the opportunity to work one on one with several students as a homebound instructor. In addition I have a reading endorsement. I used to teach illiterate adults how to read and I have seen the devastating effects of not being able to read as an adult. So making sure kids master fundamental reading skills at a young age is very important to me. I love teaching and I am excited about the possibility of being able to work with students and lead them to additional academic successes!

I also have both a Bachelors from Truman State University in Kirksville, MO and a Masters degree in Voice Performance from Wichita State University in Wichita, KS. I am currently an undergraduate student at Washington University in St. Louis working towards a Bachelors degree in Spanish. Over the years, I have volunteered as a tutor with various organizations, including the Refugee Empowerment Program in Memphis, Tennessee, and the Collegebound program that is part of Washington Universitys main tutoring initiative, Each One Teach One. In college, I have also taught ESL. In my experience working with students in elementary through high school and even with graduate students, I have found that students learn best and are more motivated to take on challenges in environments in which they feel comfortable enough to make mistakes. I believe that patience and compassion are key in creating an academic environment in which students can excel. Independent thinking is also extremely crucial; it is important to recognize multiple approaches to learning and problem-solving and to be able to think critically and form ones own opinions. I tutor Spanish, English as a Second Language, Grammar, Reading, Writing, and Test Prep in the Reading and Writing sections. My personal favorite is writing; as an avid reader and writer, I appreciate the power of words and the beauty of language. Outside of academics, I am a deep lover of music. I also enjoy reading, writing, drawing, and exploring different creative outlets.

My philosophy has always been to uplift and motivate my students. I am a firm believer in building positive relationships, that matter. Each day I aim to offer a safe and effective learning environment that inspires my students. I have a well-rounded education that includes an AA (with emphasis in Robotics from KCKCC in Kansas City, Kansas), a BLS (in Communication and Visual Arts from BGSU in Bowling Green, Ohio), and an MBA (emphasis in Business Administration from University of Saint Mary in Leavenworth, Kansas).I have been passionate in helping students achieve a basic learning knowledge on various subject matters (but specifically in the mathematical environment) from Kindergarten age through College age for the last 34+ years. My philosophy of teaching is to listen, problem solve with real world applications, all the while creating a visual understanding.
