10th Grade Math Tutor • +37 Subjects

I am currently a Senior Chemistry major student at Howard University. I transferred from Prince George's Community college where I majored in General Education. While at school, I enrolled into the AVID tutoring program, STEM collegian and SIR student programs. Through these platforms, I was exposed to many activities of leadership and community service. The AVID tutoring program was most significant because, I was able to reach out to middle and high school students who needed help in math.My effectiveness as a tutor comes from my ability to communicate and listen attentively to each individual's needs. Given the fact that everyone has different levels of comprehension, I aim at understanding the specific area of weakness and strength for each individual. I then start from what you know and understand easily to what seems to be confusing or difficult to understand. I also make sure that as soon as a concept becomes clear, we move on to solve as many problems as possible relating to that concept for more understanding.I acquired most tutoring skills at PGCC and HU math labs (the schools I attended). The math labs were used primarily for helping students finish-up assignments on time, improve grades in math courses, prepare for math placement exams and get an overall understanding of any subject matter relating to math. At these labs, I did a work-study program and served as a volunteer for 20 hours every week. I helped college students get better grades, get a better understanding of the subject matter and complete their homework in a timely manner. My joy and satisfaction came from the feedback I got from students who would say "you helped me get an A on my exam" , "you helped me pass this class" and many students said "math isn't that hard." I specialize in tutoring the basic concepts/courses in math which I believe is the basis for getting a good grasp of the subject matter. I grew up loving math because I spend hours in my early years in school trying to understand the basic concepts and once I got a hold of certain concepts, it set a tone for higher level math and made it seem so easy. Easier than English. I love tutoring all Grade school courses in math and Pre/intermediate and college Algebra.

Montclair State University alumna with a BA in French. I have tutored various students, high school level, university level and non-traditional. I enjoy tutoring French because I feel really comfortable at it and want to show students how beautiful the language is. I also enjoy tutoring the art of writing. In my free time, I enjoy watching anime and collecting word of wisdoms. My top 5 anime are: "Naruto, Death Note, Special A, Kimi ni Todoke and Kare Kano."I strongly believes that learning a foreign language creates more opportunity for one; it opens more doors because you are able to understand someone else's world. Learning a foreign language makes one see the world differently, and you realize how big and diverse the world really is. By understanding someone's language, you suddenly connect with that person. "Labor inaprobus omnia vincit" meaning "Hard work conquers all."

AP French Language and Culture Tutor • +16 Subjects

I am a junior at Columbia University double majoring in Financial Engineering and Computer Science. Since high school, I have extensively tutored French students for standardized testing (SAT/ACT). This helped me bridge the obvious language gap whilst breaking down the tests into their fundamentals to better grasp the strategy behind them. I firmly believe in learning-by-doing which is why I encourage all my students to try first before revising their methods and understanding of the subjects. I am fluent in French, Arabic, Hebrew, and English which I believe helps me communicate the very essence of the subject as opposed to a numbered list of tasks which might not help all types of students. In my spare time, I enjoy catching up on the Financial Times, trying my hand at new languages and designing clothing.

I graduated from Vassar College with a Bachelor of Arts in Neuroscience. Since college, I have tutored elementary school students in Math and English; high school students in Chemistry and Physics with learning disabilities; and college students in Neuroscience. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about General Chemistry, Biochemistry, and Neuroscience. In my experience supporting struggling students, we always seem to have the most fun figuring out stoichiometry, metabolic reactions, neurotransmitters and more in prepping for college exams.I love the quote, "Amateurs can teach other amateurs." While I may teach you something, I firmly believe that you will teach me something too. Education brings me such joy and meaning to life as working through complex problems together remain memorable experiences. I aim to extend my appreciation for learning and growth to all my students.
