My name is Cathee, and I am a California native. I attended the University of San Francisco, where I received my B.A. in Psychology, and I recently graduated from the American Military University, where I obtained my M.A. in Criminal Justice. This fall I will be attending the University of Maryland King Carey School of Law!I have an array of tutoring experiences, beginning in high school when I tutored elementary and middle school kids in subjects ranging from math and science to social studies and English. In college I was an active research assistance, and assisted in student teaching. Even after college, during a volunteer trip abroad, I got the chance to help young children learn their ABCs in Spanish while concurrently teaching ESL classes to adult students.Based on my range of experiences, both in academia and in tutoring, I am a strong advocate for tailoring my teaching style to a student's needs. I also strongly believe in teaching problem solving skills to give the students the tools to critically think with or without a tutor or teacher present.I look forward to meeting you and your child, and assisting them on the road to their academic goals!

I am a graduate of the University of Maryland Baltimore County (GO RETRIEVERS). I received my Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, with a minor in Mathematics. I have experience tutoring middle school students with MIT Scratch, college students with C++ and Java assignments, elementary students with reading and math, as well as high school students with math. I am passionate about helping students because I know how it feels to need help with homework or projects, and not have the help available. My goal is to share the knowledge I gained throughout my education to others.

I relate well to students and understand how to break concepts down into digestible bits. My passion for figuring out how things work translates to a rich variety of examples to use to help students learn within the context of something they are interested in. I have taught college-level math and high school-level Chemistry, Physics, and Pre-Calculus for 13 years. I have tutored students in upper level math and science formally for 8-9 years (and informally). While my talents and interests are in the Science and Math arenas, I also enjoy cooking and reading novels. My strongest belief as a tutor is that learning should be fun while being effective. I am a techie and love using technology to help keep learning interesting and fun. I have lots of real world experience to use as examples for the topic under study, and I look forward to helping you achieve academic success!

As a graduate of the College of William and Mary (Class of '09), I had the opportunity to complete my degree in Psychology with concentrations in lecture-based and clinical studies of Kinesiology as well as the cognitive development of children. The content of my academic concentrations in school reflect my strong belief that education is part of a much larger picture in the scheme of a satisfying and meaningful life. Yes, the body requires exercise to remain healthy and to develop further, but so too does the mind! The brain is metaphorically a muscle that can be developed through repetition of the correct training patterns. While attending William and Mary, I continued my passionate pursuit of foreign language studies, particularly French Literature and Spanish immersion over the summers away from school. During winter and spring vacation from college, I tutored high school students who were preparing for all levels of Spanish exams in my hometown of Arlington, Virginia. I also helped with translation of English into Spanish for immigrants from Central America employed by local restaurants and construction contractors. While I enjoy History and American Literature immensely, I am most passionate about tutoring students who are interested in the improvement of their performance in either Spanish or French. I have always felt an affinity for teaching foreign language as my grandfather taught Spanish at Berkeley in California and my mother taught high school Russian and English. My approach to teaching language to others and to learning on my own is one based on identifying key principles and concepts while simultaneously providing examples and explanations to further illustrate and explain these ideas. Being thorough is key! In my spare time, I enjoy hanging out with my eight month old daughter, Delilah, coaching triathletes, and training hard in the pool, on the track, or out on the bike!

Teaching is something that I have always enjoyed. Teaching does not always have to be in the classroom, it can be something as simple as teaching a toddler please and thank you or teaching your 83 year old grandpa how to use Youtube. Teaching is a passion that can not be contained within the walls of a single classroom. I have an Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education, a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary and Special Education, a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership, and an in progress doctorate in Teacher Leader in a Digital Transformation Specialization. I love learning about every student I work with so that I can individualize the work to their interests and ability. I have taught first grade and kindergarten through fourth grade special education. Prior to teaching I was an emergency medical technician for 9 years.

I am a junior at the College of William and Mary majoring in biology, and in addition to my academic classes I do independent research on microorganisms. My areas of specialty in tutoring are standardized test prep and the sciences, and I am so excited to meet and work with new students on this material! I won the National Merit Scholarship in high school for my scores on the PSAT and SAT, and I have worked with high schoolers and rising college freshman in various STEM topics. I have also been virtually mentoring a disabled individual in the natural sciences for about seven months now. I love teaching and tutoring because I get to witness and be a part of a student's learning process, and it is this process that I emphasize the most. A correct answer is worth only as much as the ability to recreate it; that is why patience and progressive advancement are the two pillars of my approach to teaching. In my spare time I like to read, draw and paint, work out, and watch TV with my friends.

I graduated from Stanford University with Comparative Literature B.A. in 2011 and will begin Bard's Masters program for Visual Culture in the fall. I have over eight years of experience teaching test prep, creating standardized tests, and writing test-prep curriculum. After working with me, my former students have gone on to get accepted into world-class universities like Yale, U Penn (early-acceptance), Berkeley, UCLA, Wellesley College, Claremont McKenna, and many more. I have also worked extensively with ESL students and students with learning disabilities to help them achieve their goals. In terms of teaching philosophy, I recognize that all students have different strengths and learning styles. While working on a variety of subjects, I make sure to always reach students on their level and keep the lessons fun! When students actually enjoy going to tutoring sessions, they can really excel. In my spare time, I am an avid reader, I enjoy Yoga, and art. I also hold a leadership position with the experimental performance group Odyssey Works and have curated two exhibitions, one of which is currently doing the rounds in London.

I am a graduate of the University of Phoenix. I received my Masters in Business Administration. I am also a graduate of Morgan State Univerisity and received a Bachelor of Science in Accounting. I currently work as an auditor for the federal government. I am in the process of reviewing potential schools for Ph.D. or a DBA (Doctor's in Business Administration) programs. I believe that there is a need for more representation in academia and that is one of the reasons I am pursuing a Ph.D. and DBA.
