When you find a word you don’t know, look at the words and sentences around it for hints about its meaning. These are called context clues. They help you guess the meaning without using a dictionary.
Types of Context Clues:
Synonym/Antonym: Similar or opposite words give hints.
Getting good at using context clues makes reading smoother and more fun!
Reading, 'The arboretum, a place where trees are grown, was beautiful.' You learn 'arboretum' means a place with trees.
In 'The room was humid, unlike the dry air outside,' 'humid' means moist or damp.
