Fundamental mathematics concepts for first grade students including basic arithmetic, counting, and number sense.
Addition means bringing groups together to find out how many there are in total. We use the plus sign (+) to show addition.
If you have 2 red balls and get 3 more, you have 2 + 3 balls altogether. Addition tells you the new total.
We add things all the time, like when collecting stickers or sharing snacks with friends.
An addition sentence looks like this: \( 4 + 2 = 6 \). The numbers you add together are called addends, and the answer is the sum.
Addition helps you figure out how many toys you have after getting a new one, or how many candies you and a friend have together.
\[a + b = c\]
Adding 3 toy cars to 2 toy cars: 3 + 2 = 5.
Adding 1 apple to a basket of 4 apples: 1 + 4 = 5.
Addition means putting things together to make a bigger number.
