There's something magical about opening a card or a book and watching it spring to life! Pop-ups transform flat paper into three-dimensional worlds, adding surprise and delight. Whether it's a card for someone special or your very own pop-up book, these paper creations never fail to bring joy.
In this fun class, learners will gain the skills they need to make pop-up cards and books of their own! They'll learn different pop-up techniques, like the basic box, basic beak, and spiral, and experiment with combining them to create different kinds of pop-ups of their own design, from simple to more complex. We'll learn how to turn them into cards, and how to combine multiple pop-ups together to create a simple pop-up book.
Please note: this class works best for students who are comfortable using scissors and making careful folds. Getting the folds to "pop" requires dexterity. Younger or less experienced learners may find some techniques challenging.
Materials needed: Construction paper or cardstock (students will use multiple sheets as they practice and create), scissors, glue stick and/or scotch tape, markers or colored pencils for decorating. Please note, pop-ups "pop" far more easily when using thicker paper. It can be challenging to make pop-ups with very thin paper like notebook paper or printer paper.
