Making Paper Puppets is a creative, hands-on art class for elementary students where every session builds a different kind of puppet: hand puppets, finger puppets, shadow puppets, and more. Students follow clear, step-by-step guidance to create characters they can name, voice, and use to put on their own puppet shows. This class combines the satisfying craft of making something tangible with the storytelling magic of bringing a character to life.
Puppets for Your Hand Students make puppets that slip over the whole hand, following clear, step-by-step directions with just paper, scissors, and a glue stick or tape.
Tiny Finger Puppets Next come puppets small enough to fit on one or two fingers. Students cut, fold, and put together little characters, each with a look all their own.
Shadow and Two-Hand Puppets Students try new kinds of puppets, like shadow puppets held up to a light and puppets worked with two hands, and learn how each kind is built.
Bringing Characters to Life Students give their puppets names, voices, and personalities, then use them to tell stories and put on shows. By the end, they have a whole collection to share or give as gifts.
