ABOUT THIS CLASS

Coding With AI is a hands-on course for middle and high school students who want to build real games and web apps — with AI as their coding partner. Students work inside Visual Studio Code, the same tool professional developers use every day, and leverage ChatGPT and Google Gemini to generate, refine, and debug code faster than ever. From building a JavaScript number-guessing game to designing physics-based mechanics inside the Unity game engine, every session produces something you can actually play and share. This course doesn't just teach you to code — it teaches you to code smarter in the age of AI.

SYLLABUS

Build Real Projects. Use Real Tools. Code With AI.

Coding With AI is a project-driven course that puts students inside the workflow of a modern developer — where AI tools like ChatGPT and Google Gemini aren't shortcuts, they're collaborators. Students don't just watch code get written; they direct it, evaluate it, fix it, and ship it. By the end of the course, they'll have built interactive JavaScript games and gotten hands-on experience with the Unity game engine, all while developing the critical thinking skills to know when AI-generated code is actually good.

JavaScript + AI: Build Interactive Games for the Web Students start by learning JavaScript — the language that powers interactivity across the entire web — and immediately apply it to a real project: a number-guessing game with a responsive interface and live user input. Along the way, they learn how to write prompts that get useful code out of AI tools, how to read and understand what those tools produce, and how to modify generated code to do exactly what they need. This isn't copy-paste coding — it's learning to think like a programmer while using AI as a force multiplier.

Visual Studio Code: Work Like a Professional Developer Every coding session happens inside Visual Studio Code, the industry-standard code editor used by developers at companies around the world. Students learn to navigate the VS Code environment, use its built-in debugging tools, and supercharge their workflow with the GitHub Copilot extension — an AI assistant that suggests code as you type. Getting comfortable in VS Code early is a skill that pays off in every future coding project, class, or internship.

Game Design and Unity: From Concepts to a Playable Game Students also get an introduction to Unity, one of the most widely used game engines for both indie developers and major studios. They explore Unity's interface, manipulate game objects, and dig into core game design concepts like collider mechanics and physics-based reactions. Whether it's making a bat swing, a ball bounce, or objects collide and respond realistically, students start to understand what separates a fun game from a frustrating one — and how to build the former.

Debug, Deploy, and Share Course projects don't stay on a local computer — students learn how to deploy their JavaScript games online so friends, family, and the world can play them. They also build real debugging skills: how to read error messages, isolate problems, and fix issues using the tools built into VS Code and Unity. These troubleshooting habits are some of the most valuable things any programmer can develop, and this course builds them from day one.

Who This Course Is For This course is designed for students in middle school and early high school who are curious about coding, gaming, or technology — no prior experience required. Whether a student wants to become a game developer, study computer science, or just understand how the apps and games they use every day actually work, Coding With AI gives them a genuine foundation and a set of projects they'll be proud to show off.
