My name is Dora. I am 22 years old and I am a third year Civil Engineering student at the University of New Mexico. I'm passionate about getting young people engaged in math, science, and our natural word! Previously, I have worked with organizations doing environmental education outreach with youth in New Mexico. I've conducted environment research throughout New Mexico and Latin America, and am passionate about bringing real world experience and stories to my students.I have completed multi-variable engineering Calculus III, which means I can tutor all levels of Mathematics. Additionally, in the past I have worked reading and reviewing policy for legislators. So, I make an awesome, quick, and practical writing tutor.

I have a PhD and have been tutoring for 10 years. I believe all students can learn, improve their test scores, and feel better about their abilities to succeed as students. Hello! My name is Karina and I am a recent college graduate. At UNM, I majored in Psychology and Spanish and minored in Criminology. I am excited to work with students of all ages. I have experience tutoring Spanish, math, and science. My goal is to help students in any way that I can because I strongly believe that knowledge is power! I look forward to working with you all!

I am a certified high school math teacher. I have a total of 7 years of teaching high school math and tutoring college math. I understand how struggling math students think. I was a mediocre math student in high school and math was not really my thing. However, in college I had a wonderful math tutor who worked diligently with me so that I really grasped college Algebra and I ended up acing the subject which had always alluded me in high school. It was amazing how much more enjoyable math was once I understood it and looked forward to using it. Instead of an annoying road block, it became an intriguing Class. Education can be given in such a way that virtually everyone can grasp and excel in school, including advanced concepts in mathematics. A weakness of our education system is that often students, whose learning style does not fit the education mold, are forced to fit as a square peg through a round hole. This rigidness and lack of flexibility often creates learners who have apathy or resentment towards math that is unnecessary. In my own practice of teaching and tutoring I have found that often students who were judged to not be able to do complex math could do it with the right tools and guidance. Students who were decent students were also able to perform at a better level as well with improved guidance. The biggest problem in student's understanding they often struggle or are weak in the foundational skills of math for that subject or the math subjects leading up to the current class, and are therefore trying to learn a new concept while simultaneously trying relearn old concepts that were not understood in the first place. Math, more than any other subject, builds on itself. Students have to have a solid foundation or go back and reinforce weak areas in order to master further concepts. Mastery learning in math is paramount. We have to crawl before we walk and walk before we run.

Zachary S Hazlett is a 23 yr old native New Mexican who has recently graduated from UNM with a B.S. in Biochemistry. He is currently pursing his goal to complete medical school and go on to be a doctor of ophthalmology (diseases and disorders of the eye). In the mean time, he wants to use his passion for teaching science to help students succeed in their own education!Zack has 3+ years experience as a STEM tutor for the University of New Mexico. He has held a variety of tutoring positions from working as a supplemental instructor for general undergrad physics and chemistry, to being a peer learning facilitator for upper division biochemistry courses. With his experience, Zack's focus in tutoring is not purely content mastery, but to equip students with the tools needed to critically think and problem solve on their own in order to create an effective and sustainable mode of learning.When Zack isn't helping inspire students to love learning, he can be found reading books in local coffee shops, cycling the streets of the 505, or lead climbing one of the many beautiful NM rock climbing routes con amigos.So drop a line! How could you say your own language is the most beautiful of all if you cannot compare it?Learning a foreign language and getting to know an entirely new culture always fascinated me and it has also made me a more open minded person. I studied French in Paris while teaching German. I have a degree in romance languages, linguistics and art history from the University of Heidelberg. I took a detour from the academic world by exploring the language of media, marketing and public relations in the Black Forest and Bavaria. In Los Angeles I was immersed in the unique tongue of the entertainment industry. I continued teaching German and, along the way, became a Certified Life Coach. This has allowed me to connect to the language of peoples souls. In the beautiful mountains of New Mexico I became a writer and published a book in Germany. Everyone has different reasons for learning a language. Of course it is not easy. It takes time and effort but it is well worth it. I would enjoy introducing you to the German culture, as well as the language, in order to make your learning experience fun, effective and most importantly, successful.

I grew up in a Boston neighborhood. It was there and then that I learned from my father and my observations of those around me that the only chance I had for a better life would be a good education. I attended Boston Latin School, the oldest and one of the finest high schools in the country, graduated with honors and was a letter-man in track and swimming. After that I earned my BA in English from the University of New Hampshire and later an MA in Reading at the University of Evansville in Indiana.As a career teacher in the field of English Language Arts and Reading I have extensive experience in private, public and charter high schools in New England, California and New Mexico. I have worked with general education, college prep, ELL, SPED, at-risk and gifted students. One of my strongest assets as a teacher is my ability to connect with students from every walk of life.In my most recent teaching experience working in an all-inclusive charter high-school for at-risk students, we developed a rigorous online curriculum, meeting National Common Core Standards, from which students could complete work from home as well as in school. Tutorial sessions with individual students supported the online curriculum, giving me the ability to help students in all their required subjects: Language Arts, Social Studies, Math and Science.My goal as a tutor is to impart my passion for language to my students and to help them understand that reading and writing skills are the cornerstone of their education and their personal lives.
