MAP 5th Grade Math

A comprehensive course preparing 5th graders for the MAP math assessment, covering essential concepts and real-world math skills.
Basic Concepts

Whole Numbers and Operations

Understanding Whole Numbers

Whole numbers are numbers without fractions or decimals. They're the numbers you count with: 0, 1, 2, 3, and so on.

Adding and Subtracting

Addition combines numbers to make a larger number, while subtraction finds the difference between numbers.

Adding:
\( 324 + 156 = 480 \)

Subtracting:
\( 500 - 275 = 225 \)

Multiplication and Division

Multiplication is repeated addition, and division is splitting a number into equal parts.

Multiplying:
\( 23 \times 4 = 92 \)

Dividing:
\( 144 \div 12 = 12 \)

Why It Matters

Mastering these operations helps you solve everyday problems, like adding items to a shopping cart or splitting tasks evenly with friends.

Examples

  • If you have 3 packs of 6 pencils each, you have \( 3 \times 6 = 18 \) pencils.

  • Sharing 24 cookies among 4 friends means each gets \( 24 \div 4 = 6 \) cookies.

Learn how to add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers quickly and accurately.
