Why Do People Choose Materials?
People have always needed to pick the right stuff to build things. A long, long time ago, people looked at rocks, sticks, and animal skins. They had to figure out which ones worked best. They tested things by trying them out! Over time, people got better and better at choosing materials (the stuff things are made of).

How Tests Help Us Decide
When we test materials, we check different properties. Here are some common tests we can do and what they tell us.

- Strength test — Try to break it. Does it snap or stay strong?
- Water test — Pour water on it. Does the water soak in or slide off?
