Earth spins like a top every day. This spinning gives us day and night. When your part of Earth faces the sun, it's daytime. When your part faces away from the sun, it's nighttime.
But here's the important part: because Earth is tilted, the amount of daylight changes throughout the year. Sometimes your part of Earth gets more sunlight hours, and sometimes it gets fewer sunlight hours.
