Through interactive sessions and hands-on activities, students will build confidence and proficiency in essential math concepts. By the end of this course, learners will be well-prepared for the mathematical challenges of first grade and beyond.

Number Recognition and Sequencing

  • Identify and write numbers — reinforcing number formation.
  • Understand number order and sequence — laying the groundwork for more complex operations.
  • Skip counting by 2s, 5s, and 10s — building fluency in multiplication concepts.

Addition Strategies

  • Mastering "doubles facts" — a cornerstone of addition fluency.
  • Missing addends — solving for unknown quantities in addition equations.
  • Counting forward as a strategy — visualizing addition on a number line.

Mental Math Techniques

  • Quick recall of basic addition facts — enhancing computational speed.
  • Decomposing numbers — breaking down larger numbers into smaller, manageable parts.
  • Using visual aids — employing tools like fingers or drawings to solve problems mentally.

Place Value Foundations

  • Introduction to 10 rods and 100 blocks — visualizing place value concepts.
  • Understanding that 10 ones equals 1 ten — grasping the base-ten number system.
  • Relating skip counting to place value — connecting skip counting by 10s to the tens place.

Working with Hundreds and Thousands

  • Counting in increments of 100 — extending number sense to larger quantities.
  • Understanding that 10 hundreds equals 1 thousand — solidifying place value knowledge.
  • Writing numbers in the hundreds — translating numerical quantities into written form.

Introduction to Fractions

  • Understanding equal parts — visually identifying fractions in shapes and objects.
  • Recognizing one-half and one-quarter — relating fractions to common, real-world divisions.
  • Fraction vocabulary — introducing terms like numerator and denominator in simple contexts.

Comparative Thinking

  • Compare Numbers — comparing quantities using terms like greater than, less than and equal to.
  • Comparing sets of objects — using sets to understand which are bigger, smaller, or equal.
