Jump Start to Precalculus offers a comprehensive review of essential precalculus concepts, ensuring students are well-prepared for the upcoming school year. Through engaging sessions, students will reinforce their understanding of complex numbers, trigonometric functions, exponents, functions, logarithms, circles, and parabolas—laying a solid foundation for success in precalculus.

Complex Numbers

  • Explore the properties of imaginary numbers, with a focus on 'i' and its powers
  • Master the "I won, I won, Negative Sandwich" mnemonic device for memorizing the pattern of i's powers
  • Perform operations with complex numbers, treating 'i' like a variable until the final simplification
  • Utilize complex conjugates to simplify expressions and solve equations

Trigonometric Functions

  • Review basic trigonometric functions—sine, cosine, tangent, cosecant, secant, and cotangent
  • Apply SOH CAH TOA to solve right triangle problems
  • Calculate inverse trigonometric functions using reciprocals
  • Sketch right triangles based on given trigonometric ratios to find missing sides and angles

Functions and Nested Functions

  • Understand the concept of a function as an input-output relationship
  • Evaluate functions for given inputs
  • Work with nested functions—solving from the inside out (PEMDAS style)
  • Divide and combine different functions

Exponents and Logarithms

  • (Topics to be Determined Based on the information in the future Classes)

Circles

  • (Topics to be Determined Based on the information in the future Classes)

Parabolas

  • (Topics to be Determined Based on the information in the future Classes)

Problem Solving and Review

  • Practice applying learned concepts through various worksheets and exercises
