High School Geometry Fundamentals equips students with essential geometric principles and problem-solving skills. This course covers foundational concepts, from basic geometric figures to triangle congruence and similarity, enabling students to confidently tackle geometric proofs and calculations. By the end of this course, students will master core geometric concepts and be prepared for more advanced studies.

Distance, Midpoint, and Slope

  • Calculate the distance between two points using the distance formula — a direct application of the Pythagorean theorem.
  • Determine the midpoint of a line segment — essential for coordinate geometry.
  • Analyze slopes of lines to determine if they are parallel or perpendicular — crucial for understanding geometric relationships.

Triangle Fundamentals

  • Classify triangles based on their angles and sides — acute, right, obtuse, equilateral, isosceles, and scalene.
  • Apply the Pythagorean Theorem to solve for missing side lengths in right triangles — understanding Pythagorean triples for efficient calculations.
  • Determine if a triangle is acute, right, or obtuse based on side lengths — using the converse of the Pythagorean Theorem.
  • Explore the triangle inequality theorem to determine possible side lengths — understanding the range of the third side.

Trigonometric Ratios

  • Understand sine, cosine, and tangent ratios in right triangles — essential for solving problems involving angles and side lengths.
  • Apply trigonometric ratios to find missing angles and sides in right triangles — using inverse trigonometric functions.

Triangle Congruence

  • Prove triangle congruence using Side-Side-Side (SSS), Side-Angle-Side (SAS), Angle-Side-Angle (ASA), Angle-Angle-Side (AAS), and Hypotenuse-Leg (HL) congruence theorems.
  • Understand the concept of Corresponding Parts of Congruent Triangles are Congruent (CPCTC) — applying this to prove additional properties of congruent triangles.

Triangle Similarity

  • Establish triangle similarity using Angle-Angle (AA), Side-Angle-Side (SAS), and Side-Side-Side (SSS) similarity theorems.
  • Solve problems involving similar triangles by setting up proportions — using cross-multiplication to find unknown side lengths.

Angle Relationships and Proofs

  • Apply the angle addition postulate to solve for unknown angles — understanding angle bisectors and their properties.
  • Utilize segment addition postulates in geometric proofs.
  • Master supplementary and complementary angle relationships — understanding linear pairs and vertical angles.
  • Construct geometric proofs involving lines, angles, and triangles — applying theorems and postulates to justify each step.
