Building Blocks of 6th Grade Math empowers students with foundational math skills using real-world applications. Through hands-on activities, students will master core concepts, solve equations, and confidently apply mathematical principles to everyday scenarios. By the end of this course, students will have a strong grasp of essential 6th-grade math concepts.

Triangle Geometry

  • Explore fundamental properties of triangles as polygons with three angles and three sides
  • Classify triangles based on side lengths — equilateral, isosceles, and scalene
  • Classify triangles based on angle measures — acute, obtuse, and right triangles
  • Understand real-world applications in construction, surveying, navigation, and computer graphics

Coordinate Plane Graphing

  • Learn the fundamentals of the coordinate plane
  • Practice plotting and interpreting points on a graph
  • Apply coordinate graphing to solve problems and visualize relationships

Equation Solving

  • Understand and apply the addition property of equality — adding the same number to both sides of an equation maintains equivalence
  • Utilize the subtraction property of equality — subtracting the same number from both sides maintains equivalence
  • Solve for variables using inverse operations to isolate the unknown

Relationship Identification

  • Identify and describe relationships between variables in tables of values
  • Translate real-world scenarios into mathematical equations
  • Write equations using variables to represent relationships — e.g., y = 30x to represent a proportional relationship between hours and pages read

Fraction Fundamentals

  • Define fractions as parts of a whole with numerators and denominators
  • Understand the relationship between fractions, decimals, and percentages
  • Convert between fractions, decimals, and percentages
  • Apply knowledge of fractions to solve real-world problems

Percent Applications

  • Define percent as "out of 100"
  • Calculate percentages in real-world scenarios such as sales and discounts
  • Understand how percentages simplify comparisons and decision-making

Problem Solving Strategies

  • Apply learned concepts to solve word problems
  • Develop critical thinking and analytical skills
  • Connect math to real-world scenarios
