Building Blocks of 4th Grade Math equips students with a comprehensive understanding of multiplication, division, fractions, geometric shapes, LCM, and GCF, enabling them to confidently solve mathematical problems and build a strong foundation for future math courses. Through interactive lessons and practical exercises, students will develop essential problem-solving skills and mathematical fluency.

Multiplication and Division Fluency

  • Master multiplication facts and strategies — including multiplying by 10, 100, and 1000.
  • Apply shortcuts and mental math techniques for efficient calculations.
  • Solve real-world problems involving multiplication and division.

Understanding Fractions

  • Identify the numerator and denominator and their significance in representing parts of a whole.
  • Learn that fractions must have equal parts.
  • Understand and create unit fractions (e.g., 1/2, 1/3, 1/4).
  • Use the concept of unit fractions to build the foundation for more complex fraction operations.

Equivalent Fractions and Comparison

  • Generate equivalent fractions by multiplying the numerator and denominator by the same number.
  • Compare fractions using benchmarks like one-half to determine which is greater or less than.
  • Understand that equivalent fractions represent the same portion of a whole, even with different numerators and denominators.

Least Common Multiple (LCM)

  • Understand the concept of multiples and common multiples between two or more numbers.
  • Identify the least common multiple as the smallest multiple shared by a set of numbers.

Greatest Common Factor (GCF)

  • Understand the concept of factors and common factors between two or more numbers.
  • Identify the greatest common factor as the largest factor shared by a set of numbers.

Geometric Shapes and Properties

  • Explore basic geometric shapes and their attributes.
  • Learn to identify and classify shapes based on their properties.
  • Apply geometric concepts to real-world scenarios.

Problem-Solving Strategies

  • Develop problem-solving skills through engaging math riddles and jokes.
  • Apply learned concepts to solve word problems and real-world scenarios.
  • Build confidence and enthusiasm for math through interactive activities.
