AP Physics 1: Exam Review

This intensive AP Physics 1 review course provides students with the tools and strategies needed to excel on the AP exam. Through targeted practice and problem-solving techniques, students will reinforce their understanding of core physics concepts and gain confidence in their ability to tackle challenging exam questions. By the end of this course, students will be equipped with effective test-taking strategies and a solid foundation in the key areas of AP Physics 1.

Effective Problem-Solving Strategies

  • Understanding the question — identifying the relevant unit and the specific concept being tested.
  • Visual representation — creating diagrams to translate abstract problems into visual aids.
  • Variable listing — systematically organizing given information for efficient equation selection.
  • Formula selection — using the formula chart to identify appropriate equations based on listed variables.
  • Clear communication — presenting solutions logically, showing all steps using proper notation, and using units to communicate answers.

Forces and Motion

  • Newton's Laws of Motion — applying these to solve problems involving forces, mass, and acceleration.
  • Free-body diagrams — constructing and interpreting these to analyze forces acting on objects.
  • Friction — addressing static and kinetic friction in various scenarios, including inclined planes.
  • Circular motion — analyzing centripetal force and acceleration in uniform circular motion.

Energy and Work

  • Work-energy theorem — relating work done on an object to its change in kinetic energy.
  • Potential energy — gravitational and elastic potential energy and their relationship to work.
