AP Physics 1: Exam Review

This intensive AP Physics 1 review course equips students with essential problem-solving skills and test-taking strategies to excel on the AP exam. Through targeted practice and in-depth analysis, students will master core physics concepts, including kinematics, dynamics, energy, rotational motion, and graphing techniques, preparing them for success on both multiple-choice and free-response questions. By the end of this course, students will be able to apply fundamental physics principles to solve complex problems and confidently approach the AP Physics 1 exam.

Graphical Analysis

  • Interpreting and creating graphs to represent physical relationships — velocity vs. time, position vs. time, and force diagrams.
  • Extracting meaningful information from graphs — slope, area under the curve.
  • Applying graphical analysis to solve problems related to kinematics and dynamics.
  • Mastering graphing techniques specifically relevant to free-response questions.

Newton's Laws and Kinematics

  • Applying Newton's Laws of Motion to solve dynamics problems.
  • Understanding the relationship between net force and acceleration — essential for problem-solving.
  • Calculating forces, acceleration, position, and velocity using kinematics equations.
  • Analyzing scenarios involving constant and non-constant forces.

Rotational Motion

  • Understanding the concepts of angular velocity, angular acceleration, and torque.
  • Analyzing rotational motion using kinematic equations.
  • Calculating moment of inertia for various objects.
  • Applying the conservation of angular momentum to solve problems.

Energy Conservation

  • Understanding the concepts of kinetic and potential energy.
  • Applying the work-energy theorem to solve problems.
  • Analyzing energy transfer in systems.

Test-Taking Strategies

  • Time management techniques for both multiple-choice and free-response sections.
  • Strategies for approaching different types of AP Physics 1 questions.
  • Utilizing the AP Physics 1 equation sheet effectively — understanding the formulas and constants provided.
  • Avoiding common mistakes and pitfalls on the exam.

Free-Response Question (FRQ) Practice

  • Developing strategies for writing clear and concise FRQ responses.
  • Applying physics principles to solve multi-step FRQ problems.
  • Practicing with released AP Physics 1 FRQs.
  • Understanding the scoring rubrics for FRQs — maximizing points earned.

Practice Tests and Review

  • Accessing and utilizing provided links to full and partial practice tests.
  • Reviewing key concepts and formulas from all areas of AP Physics 1.
  • Identifying areas for improvement and focusing study efforts accordingly.
  • Building confidence and reducing test anxiety through thorough preparation.
