ABOUT THIS CLASS

Adventures in Art is a weekly drop-in course that throws open the doors to every corner of the creative world — painting, sculpture, music, dance, and beyond — giving young artists a chance to explore, experiment, and express themselves in a new way every single session. Students who are still searching for their medium will discover what lights them up, while those already developing a style will find fresh inspiration and a community to share it with. Project sessions use only basic school supplies and household items, so there are zero barriers to jumping in and making something real. Art appreciation lessons round out the experience, guiding students through iconic works across genres and time periods to build genuine visual and cultural literacy. Whether you drop in for a single session or show up every week for the full creative journey, Adventures in Art delivers hands-on making and meaningful conversation in equal measure.

SYLLABUS

Every Week Is a New Creative Adventure

Adventures in Art is built on a simple but powerful idea: art isn't just one thing. It's paintings and sculptures, yes — but also music, dance, performance, and every hybrid form in between. Each week, this course ventures into a different corner of that vast creative world, giving students a new project to make or a new work to explore. No two sessions look alike, and that's entirely the point. The variety keeps things exciting and ensures that every student — regardless of background or experience level — will find a session that genuinely clicks.

Make It, Don't Just Study It

Project sessions are the heart of the course. Students roll up their sleeves and create original work guided by the week's theme or technique. The best part? No special art supply haul required. Every project is designed around basic school supplies and common household items, which means the focus stays on creativity and skill rather than equipment. Students walk away from each session with something tangible — a piece worth hanging on the wall and a new technique worth practicing.

See Art Differently

Art appreciation lessons give the course its depth. Rather than just listing famous artists and dates, these sessions ask students to slow down and really look — at composition, color, intention, and cultural context. From Renaissance masterworks to abstract expressionism to contemporary performance art, students build the vocabulary and the eye to engage meaningfully with art across genres. These discussions sharpen critical thinking skills that stretch far beyond the art room.

Perfect for Every Kind of Young Artist

This course is designed to meet students exactly where they are. If you're still exploring and haven't found your medium yet, Adventures in Art gives you a low-pressure space to try everything. If you're already committed to a craft, the cross-disciplinary exposure and appreciation lessons will deepen your perspective and push your creative thinking. The drop-in format means you can join a single session that catches your eye or commit to the full run for a richer, cumulative experience.

What Students Walk Away With

By engaging consistently with Adventures in Art, students develop a genuine creative practice, a broader understanding of art history and culture, and the confidence to make and discuss art in any setting. Whether the goal is enrichment, inspiration, or building toward a future in the arts, this course delivers the tools, the exposure, and the spark to keep creating.
