If you're looking for Phoenix GMAT prep opportunities in hopes of getting into the University of Arizona - Eller College of Management or Ottawa University - Arizona, Varsity Tutors can connect you to the right review opportunity to fit your exact needs. Doing well on the GMAT exam is a critical part of preparing to begin a successful business or management career. 90 percent of MBA enrollments are determined based on one's GMAT score. This is due in part because the GMAT was created specifically to assess a student's ability to succeed in a business school program. The GMAT has been used in the admissions process for over 60 years. It is important to work hard in order to showcase your abilities with your best score.
What can a Phoenix GMAT prep course or tutor cover?
The GMAT consists of four different sections: Analytical Writing Assessment, Integrated Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning, and Verbal Reasoning. When you arrive for your exam, you will be given the opportunity to decide which of three sequences you would like to take these sections in. A Phoenix GMAT prep course or tutor can go through the various options with you and help you make a determination before you even walk into your test. Let's take a closer look at the various sections of the GMAT exam.
The Analytical Writing Assessment is the only section consisting of one question. You will have 30 minutes to complete this portion of the test. During the writing assessment, you are required to read and evaluate a provided argument. You are being evaluated on your ability to plan and present a response in which you determine if you believe the given argument has been fully developed with the provided evidence. You do not need to have any prior knowledge of the subject matter in this section, as you are not required to create your own argument. Your essay response in the section will be graded based on the quality of your writing skills and your ability to determine the most significant parts of the given argument.
The Integrated Reasoning section consists of 12 questions which you must answer within 30 minutes. In this section, you are being evaluated on your ability to use data and information presented in multiple forms to solve problems. There are four types of questions found in the section: multi-source reasoning, table analysis, graphics interpretation, and two-part analysis. All of these questions involve quantitative and verbal reasoning. Multi-source reasoning questions measure your capacity to use various sources of information to answer multiple questions. Table analysis questions assess your ability to analyze a table of information to determine which data is relevant to the question. Graphics interpretation questions measure your ability to use graphs, bar charts, pie charts, or other types of graphs to determine relationships between different sets of data. Two-part analysis questions are evaluating your ability to solve multi-step problems which cover a wide range of content.
The Quantitative Reasoning Section of the GMAT consists of 31 multiple-choice questions which you must finish within 62 minutes. This section tests your ability to apply logic and reasoning to mathematical and quantitative problems. There are two types of questions in the section: problem-solving and data sufficiency. Both types require a foundational knowledge of algebra, geometry, and arithmetic concepts. However, the difficulty of the questions does not come from the math skills but stems from the critical thinking skills required to solve the problem. Problem-solving questions measure your ability to use logic to solve problems of a quantitative nature. Data sufficiency questions assess your capacity to determine whether you have enough information to solve a problem.
In the Verbal Reasoning section, you are being evaluated on your reading comprehension, critical reasoning, and sentence correction skills. This section is comprised of 36 multiple-choice questions and you will have 65 minutes to complete it. Reading comprehension and critical reasoning questions require you to answer questions based on a given passage. You will need to be able to identify the main and supporting ideas of a passage, draw inferences on the passage, and apply the material to a different context. You may also be asked to evaluate or make an argument. Sentence correction questions measure your language proficiency. You will need to showcase your ability to recognize and create sentences which are both structurally and grammatically correct.
Each of the sections is uniquely designed to assess your ability to think critically and solve problems. If you believe you will struggle with any of these sections, a Phoenix GMAT prep course or tutor can be an excellent resource as you practice for this critical exam.

I am here to help. Learning and taking tests can be stressful. Some students benefit seeing the structure of how prior learning relate to the current ideas. Others approach learning in much less linear fashion. Getting to know the student and their learning style can reduce their frustration. I hope to help get people into the zone where they can learn without being frustrated.
