About Me
I'm a brand new mother to a beautiful 8 week old baby girl and I am loving it. It's not easy but it's very rewarding, just like teaching. Working with children of all ages is definitely my passion. I would say that I have a student-centered approach focused on encouragement and trust in order to build up your confidence in the subject matter at hand. I mostly enjoy tutoring in mathematics courses like Calculus and Statistics, but my background is quite varied. In college, I studied Elementary Education, Psychology and Mathematics, earning my Bachelors of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies. I have tutored high school and college students in multiple mathematics courses, substitute taught for pre-k and kindergarten classes, led middle school girls groups in Bible Studies, and worked several pre-k extended care programs including art clubs and summer camp. I have been a full time pre-k teaching assistant for the last four years, having to transition to online learning as the Flexible Learning coordinator during the peak of Covid. During these years as a teaching assistant, I have studied the Reggio Emilia approach to learning which aligns with my own teaching philosophy. In this approach students are seen as capable learners and hands-on learning is key. Exploration and play lead to observation and inquiry which in turn leads to a deeper understanding and meaningful learning experience for the student. I am excited to start tutoring in Algebra, Statistics, Calculus, Elementary Studies, and Middle School courses for Varsity Tutors and look forward to getting to know you.
