About Me

I just can’t seem to get away from education. Right after I received my undergraduate degree from Denison University in 2010, I moved across the ocean to start teaching as part of a Fulbright program in Austria where, believe it or not, no one has ever seen “The Sound of Music.” After I moved back to my hometown of St. Louis, I worked in schools failing the No Child Left Behind standards and began tutoring with Varsity. Even once I started law school at George Washington University, I kept tutoring, started an education law society, and volunteered to work at an education-reform non-profit. Now that I have gotten my JD and passed the Virginia Bar, I have even gotten a job working in the field of Educational Civil Rights. I really love teaching, whether that involves writing songs, plays and poems with my younger students to make reading “less boring,” figuring out good mnemonic devices for remembering math formulas with my ACT/SAT students, or puzzling through pesky logic problems with my LSAT students. I already have a day job- I tutor because I enjoy it, so I want you to enjoy it too.

Q&A with Michael

I WILL be emailing and texting you during the week to see if you're studying/check in and see how you're doing. Tutors and teachers are important, but the work YOU put in is more important. Also, I already have a day job. Tutoring is something I do because I love it- I get pretty darned invested in my students, and I want them to succeed. How would you help a student stay motivated? Constant (or at least frequent) contact, directly with my older students, and with the parents of my younger students.
