Hi! I'm Darby. I'm a paramedic, SAR team member, and EMS instructor for multiple universities located in Utah. I love to teach and run around in the outdoors! I have been in EMS for almost 10 years now. I have two bachelors and a masters degree focused on Emergency Medical Services in urban and rural locations.

I am currently working on my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education at the University of Missouri in St. Louis. Teaching is my passion, and I am never happier than when I am helping students make sense of new information. Although I am getting my certification to work with children grades K-6, I love working with students of all ages.I have worked for an educational camp called College for Kids for seven years as an assistant and as an instructor. I have also volunteered as a literacy advocate for Ready Readers and as a tutor for Girls Inc. In my free time, I like to read books, bake, and train for races; I recently completed my first half marathon!My approach to tutoring is recognizing that everyone has a different learning style. Experimenting with different approaches to learning, whether that be visual, auditory, or tactile- kinesthetic, enables the student to not only grasp the material, but also retain it. All it takes is exploring what works best for each individual.

I recently graduated Magna Cum Laude from Loyola University Chicago, with a dual degree in Theatre and Dance. As a graduate of Loyola's Interdisciplinary Honors Program, I strongly believe that education is the key to building a society that is not only prosperous, but compassionate. I love learning and I love sharing my passion for learning with others. I find that any student can succeed when they feel valued by an attentive, enthusiastic, and patient teacher. I am creative and enjoy thinking from several viewpoints, which allows me to engage students of all learning styles. Although I tutor a variety of subjects, I especially love English, Literature, and Shakespeare because those subjects allow me to engage students in discussions where I learn just as much from their perspectives as they do from mine! Even though I enjoy these areas, I find that I can easily carry that passion into all areas of learning.

Education is a third career for me after extensive experience in international diplomacy and the investing world. I am a graduate level instructor for an online university in international relations, law and business plus public sector management and communications. I also tutor secondary and middle school students in reading, writing and SAT/ACT test prep (non-math). I have worked successfully with TOEFL students.

I am a licensed K-6th teacher and hold a Special Education certificate for K-12th grade.

I am a student at the University of Michigan studying pre-med. I am majoring in Cognitive Science and minoring in the History of Medicine. Outside of Varsity Tutors, I volunteer as a tutor for the Detroit Educational Society, in which I help underprivileged students in Detroit study for the ACT and SAT. When it comes to the student-tutor relationship, I believe that a tutor's job is to provide a safe place for the student to ask questions and to make mistakes, while the role of the student is to come prepared and be ready to improve.

As a tutor, I find that if we know a little bit about each other as people, then we work better during sessions, so I'll go ahead and give you some background on myself. I have received a B.A. in English from Truman State University, where I also minored in Theatre. I currently attend graduate school for Library and Information science, as well as working at the local library and, hopefully, tutoring you! I have mainly had tutoring experience in essay writing, specifically at the college level, through working at Truman State's writing center; there, I also had ESL training and worked with many students on improving basic English writing skills. I tutor in English/Literature, Grammar/Mechanics, Essay writing, and AP Lit/SAT test prep. I don't necessarily have a favorite subject to tutor, but what I do enjoy most is talking about novels and passages and being able to help a student really break down their writing. My tutoring philosophy reflects this as well, as it hinges mostly on respecting the student's autonomy in their work. I am here as a guide for you, but my goal is never to tell you the answer outright or tell you the perfect thesis statement. I will be looking to aid you in getting to be the best you can be on your own. In my personal time, you can usually find me reading genre novels/manga, creating some sort of art, watching movies, or playing TTRPGs. While I don't consider myself an artist, I do think I'm artistic, so I really mesh with creative people; I'll also talk your ear off about wrestling or football, too, so don't worry too much if the interests I have here don't seem your style. I am all about making each individual session work for each individual student, and we will perfect that process together!

I believe that students thrive and succeed in an environment where everyone feels valued and respected. This has been my guiding principle as a teacher, tutor and as a department chair.

Hi! I'm a freshman at Syracuse University, majoring in History and Political Science (both with concentrations in America) and minoring in Psychology. I have plans to attend law school once I graduate to study civil rights litigation. Someday I even hope to run for political office!I'm quite the busy bee, and I love it! I thoroughly enjoy having a jam packed schedule, it helps me manage my time better. On campus I'm on the executive board for the Syracuse Animal Rights Organization. Activism was always something I dabbled in, but being apart of this club has really helped me grow as not only an activist, but as a person. I'm also a DJ at two radio stations on campus (you should DEFINITELY tune in) and I'm apart of the Advocacy Committee for Syracuse University's branch of UNICEF. Next semester I'll be doing all of that AND picking up a local political office internship as well as hopefully assisting with psychology research with one of my professors! I have such diverse interests that we're practically bound to have something in common! In my little free time I can be found binge watching The Office and Parks and Rec on Netflix and drinking as much coffee and tea as humanly possible.I have big aspirations and I'm constantly striving to make them a reality, but I also really love helping people. In fact, it's one of my favorite things to do. I try my best to do it as much a possible through volunteer work and tutoring. I used to tutor when I was in high school to fellow students in algebra, statistics, english, and history. When your student finally gets it, and they have that "eureka!" expression on their face, it truly makes it all worth while.As you can probably tell I'm a pretty friendly, quirky, and open person, and if I do say so myself I think we'd be a great fit as tutor and tutoree!

I am currently a biology major at UT Dallas and will graduate this May. Becoming a physician has been a lifelong dream of mine. I am excited to begin medical school at UT Southwestern next fall.I would love to help others who are pursuing a similar path and need SAT or MCAT tutoring. I have been tutoring students for the SAT since high school. My tutoring style is interactive, as I like to guide students through problems until they are confident with the material on their own. I'm looking forward to getting to know my students and helping them achieve their goals!In my free time, I love to dance, play the piano, and watch movies with friends.
