I have two years of extensive experience tutoring high schoolers in chemistry and all subjects of the SAT and ACT. I can also say that I understand completely how difficult the process of test prep and high school chemistry can be because I recently survived the whole process myself having taken IB chem and the ACT/SAT in the last 1-2 years and studying and prepping extensively for them. I am a junior at Purdue University studying Aerospace Engineering and am part of the Air Force ROTC program. I have 6 years of tutoring experience at places including Kumon, Mathnasium, and Purdue University. I have worked with kids of all ages from kindergarten to sophomores in college, each with their own set of unique strengths, and tutored a variety of subjects, including calculus, trigonometry, geometry, thermodynamics, chemistry, and physics. Like many of my previous students, I struggled to understand concepts that I was being taught and was a terrible test taker. However, I found ways to overcome my obstacles and develop an better intuition for what I was learning. I believe that it is only this intuition and understanding that helps overcome these obstacles. I'm an undergraduate at Columbia University in New York City, and from this you might think that Varsity has put my profile in the wrong city. They most certainly have not: I am a Houstonian, born and raised, and I'm back in my hometown for the summer. Last year in New York, I worked with Elementary schoolers, helping with preparation for New York State Math and English exams. This summer, I'm looking forward to helping with test-prep for all ages. With the help of some excellent teachers, I myself scored a perfect 2400 on the SAT, helping me get into Columbia, one of the most prestigious universities in the country. Since then, I've wanted to join that elite corps, to help other students conquer standardized testing, complete the college application process, and go further on the road to achieving their dreams. At Columbia, I study Computer Science, but I also have a great passion for the sciences, math, and literature. I enjoy Chemistry and Physics, am very comfortable in math from Pre-Algebra all the way through Calculus I, and have gathered some great insight about the sort of writing that is expected from America's top universities. With my performance on standardized tests, I was able to become a National Merit Scholar and obtain a full scholarship to university, a long-time dream of mine. I have very recent experience, so I understand the hurdles that many students face. I want them to feel confident that they have the tools they need to succeed. I love teaching test prep because standardized tests have an enormous impact on people's futures, and I also teach math because it reaches across many fields, from astronomy to robotics.
