I am currently a third year student at New York Institute of Technology and majoring in life sciences. I am planning on attending medical school next year. I enjoy learning science and plan on continuing to learn science. I have been tutoring since I was in high school, originally through a tutoring company and then unprofessionally since. I want to share my love of the English Language with others through skill building and creative approaches.I have had a passion for writing since I started writing creative fiction when I was eight years old. At twenty-four, I still hold tight to that passion. I have written two books, one fantasy novel, and one non-fiction novel about my thru-hike on the Appalachian Trail.I graduated from Alvernia University in 2015 with a dual Bachelor Degree in Special Education and Early Childhood Education, where I also worked as a writing tutor all four years. Through the writing center there, I gained a national Tutor I certificate. Throughout my student teaching, I worked in resource rooms, general education classrooms, and schools for behaviorally at-risk students. Since graduating, I also taught my own class of twenty pre-school students for six months. Throughout these opportunities, I loved the common factor of helping others grasp and appreciate new concepts.I spend my free time playing with my many pets, writing, hiking, and cooking vegan dinners for my fiancée.I cannot wait to share my experience and ignite the fire of learning in anyone who seeks it.

I am a recent graduate of Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas with a B.S. in Neuroscience cum laude. I am living in Austin until I begin medical school in July. Tutoring has always been a hobby of mine, and I continued my passion for teaching during college by being the Peer Tutor for a Statistics course and a Biology course at Trinity. Additionally, I tutored middle and high school students in the San Antonio community while working for a company similar to Varsity Tutoring. My favorite part of being a tutor is seeing the light-bulb moment happen for my students when they finally grasp a concept they???ve been struggling with. Usually with my students and as a student myself, I find that explaining concepts in a different way with language that is more understandable or connecting it to real-world experiences goes a long way. As a competitive swimmer for the past 15 years and the captain of my college team, I understand the desire students have for excelling in both the classroom and in their extracurricular activities and the struggle that can occur between balancing them. Besides tutoring, I enjoy traveling, spending time with my family and my dog, and cooking!

I was a struggling student throughout high school. I was an athlete with a strong work ethic but just needed more out of the box explanations. I used tutoring myself to help increase my grades and understanding that I found invaluable. Tutoring helped fuel my desire to continue my education and I graduated Cum Laude from La Sierra University. After college, I had the utmost desire to give back to students in the same way other tutors had done for me.I have been tutoring now for the last two years. I am passionate about helping students to understand and overcome challenges they think they could have never achieved. I have unwavering patience and out of the box ways of thinking of ways to explain material. I pride myself on being able to explain what the teacher cannot. I also find it best to explain the material by applying the concepts to everyday life or specific interests of the students.

I've always been good at helping my fellow students, friends, and children of my friends at increasing their math skills. I've also given drum lessons for years. I'm passionate about teaching and find it incredibly rewarding. I need to do some sort of good in this life and teaching is what I have chosen.

I am a retired high school teacher. I have taught all levels (9-12 grade), and all aspects of English. No matter what I taught or when I taught it, I have always enjoyed the student-teacher connection more than any other part of teaching.I am especially good at helping with writing no matter the writer's level. Working on writing is a chance to also work on grammar, punctuation, organization, including outlining, and finally writing the paper. If a student learns this process, they can write a response for any situation.Once the process is learned then writing for other classes, all the way from a short answer to a research paper, becomes so much easier! After graduation and entering the work world, knowing how to write a response is a crucial tool. More and more businesses demand their employees write.Be it writing, or any other academic challenge, I hope to help you reach your potential, connect what you are studying to the real world, and have some fun while doing so.

I have a teaching degree with a B.A. major in Liberal Arts and minor in Biology. Currently, I am working toward a Master's Program in Communication Sciences and Disorders.I have taught middle school for four years. Over the past three years, I have taught science in a 6th grade classroom. Prior to teaching, I worked for six years in a hospital as a Pharmacy Technician. From my past and current teaching positions, I have gained valuable experience in student-centered teaching and am refreshed by the gamut of diversity in the student population. I see many parallels between teaching in the classroom and online as well as in-person tutoring, in the strong commitment to the scholastic, personal and social advancement of the students coupled with the eager reciprocating engagement of the students. I am both elated as well as encouraged to find and seek out this learning opportunity that fosters this type of student growthAs a teacher, my objective is to teach children to grow and have confidence in their abilities and go out into the world using their best abilities and gifts. Do you remember that teacher from when you were in school? Not A teacher. THAT teacher. The one that stayed late after class to tutor you. The one that gave you the confidence to push yourself further and to work harder. The one you would want to see one more time so you can tell them what a difference they made. What was their name? For me his name was Mr. Walker, and I know that I would not be where I am today is it was not for him. I did not get into this profession to be a teacher. I was called to this profession to be THAT teacher. The funny thing about being THAT teacher, though, is that they are never just a teacher. Often, they take on whatever roles they need to in order to make a difference. So, although I have only been at this for half a decade, I have always attempted not just to be the best teacher but to be the best curriculum coordinator, data analyst, or counselor I can be. When my school switched to Common Core Standards I volunteered to make sure these standards were implemented in a way that built off of the curriculum we already had in place. When thirty-four of our students were not going to graduate because of their NECAP score, I analyzed every piece of data available to best identify the gaps those students had. And after my administration met with these students and their parents I created and taught a summer camp to address these gaps.I hope you will give me the opportunity to be THAT teacher for you. I appreciate your time and hope to speak with you soon.
