As a first-generation immigrant from the Dominican Republic, I lead my life according to the values of independence, adaptability, and unconstrained passion. These values have aided me well along my academic journey. Growing up in a predominantly Spanish-speaking household in the US forced me to become an independent learner at a young age. A National AP Scholar who has taken over 10 AP classes, I have substantial experience with advanced curriculums. I recently graduated from the University of Chicago with general honors in the college and departmental honors in Biological Sciences. The rigors of an elite liberal arts education helped me realize the importance of developing an intuition in educational pursuits. I became a teaching assistant at the University of Chicago with this exact focus in mind for my students and learned to tutor them on complex topics ranging from evolution to sickle cell disease in a way that resonates best with their diversity of learning styles.I have come to believe in a tutoring style that prioritizes establishing a sound conceptual foundation that a student can later extend into more advanced content and novel applications. I also believe that challenging students to think beyond the content presented is crucial for the development of critical thinking skills and curiosity. Beyond all else, however, I believe that one learns best when he or she finds meaning in the material that extends beyond textbooks or assessments. I hope I can be the bridge between the objective content presented and subjective awe experienced by a student. I am a firm believer in the idea that there is no better feeling than that "aha!" moment.Having endured a challenging pre-medical curriculum at the University of Chicago and scored in the 95th+ percentile on the MCAT, I have a thorough background in STEM that ranges from calculus to neuroscience. As someone who aspires to become a physician, I tend to analyze the world around me based on scientific principles and have developed the intuition needed for nuanced and creative approaches to novel problems. I believe I can assist students with developing a similar intuition and empower them to approach scientific problems from new perspectives that complement their own.Despite my scientific background, I am enamored by both creative and argumentative writing. I have a firm grasp of the English language and understand how to read between the lines of text. The liberal arts education I received at the University of Chicago has strengthened my writing skills and has introduced me to meditated critical thinking skills I hope to share with others.I strongly desire to not only help others learn but to help them acquire the skills and attitudes needed to become lifelong learners with a curious, skeptical eye. Please feel free to contact me so we can begin this journey!

"Ability is what you're capable of doing. Motivation determines what you do. Attitude determines how well you do it." This quote by College Football Hall of Famer Lou Holtz details the aspects to accomplishing a task. My personal belief is that these 3 components also apply to studying, and the mastery of every one is the key to academic success.I strive to achieve these three factors in my own life as well as helping others realize their potential through mastering ability, motivation, and attitude.

My teaching style focuses on being a facilitator, mentor, coach, and guide to stimulate an interactive learning environment. For a successful learning experience, the learner needs to be an active participant with the teacher providing instruction, guidance, and support. I strive to promote a positive learning experience, build rapport, stimulate learner enthusiasm, and achieve academic goals. This approach has shown to be effective in increasing confidence, motivation, and independence. I have experience tutoring elementary through graduate school students in a variety of different subjects. I believe that it is important to customize the learning experience by adapting my teaching style to accommodate the students learning style to maximize effectiveness. I have a BS in Psychology from Arizona State University and will be defending my thesis this fall to complete my MS in Psychology degree from ASU. My academic and teaching experience focuses on the natural, social, and health sciences along with statistics and essay writing including graduate level research papers. I have presented numerous research papers at national psychology conventions and received a graduate research award for my thesis research. My favorite subjects to teach high school and undergraduate/graduate students are psychology, statistics, research methods, biology, nutrition, and essay writing. I have taken three graduate level statistics courses and I am proficient in a variety of statistical software programs such as SPSS and structural equation modeling programs (AMOS and EQS). Also, I have a strong skill level in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. I enjoy teaching elementary school students in reading comprehension, writing, math, and the sciences. I believe that this is the time to develop a strong foundation for future learning which will help sustain a high level of confidence, build self-esteem, and autonomy. I work to show this age group that learning can be fun by using a variety of different activities and resources so they leave each tutoring session with a sense of accomplishment. I would appreciate the opportunity to be a part of the academic development of students that needs my assistance. I have a passion for learning and teaching but my other activities include reading, hiking, playing tennis, and watching sports.

I received a B.S. in psychology from Loyola University Chicago in May 2014 and am currently working as a lab manager for the Visual Cognition Lab at Northwestern University. I'm from Cincinnati, OH and love spending weekends there with my family. I'm planning on attending doctoral school for a PhD in Neuropsychology after a few years of working and traveling. I fell in love with Italy while studying abroad in Rome and will take any chance I can get to go back! When I'm not working, I enjoy visiting art museums and seeing musicals and plays. I was a peer tutor at Loyola for two years and have been a private tutor for the past year. It has been a very fulfilling experience and a skill I would like to continue developing. It is such a joy for me to see the light of understanding in my students' eyes and be able to track their progress and academic achievements. I love the challenge of catering to each person's learning style and finding what works best for them. Let's learn together and have fun doing it!

I am a graduate of St. Edward's University in Austin, Texas. I received my Bachelor of Science in Biology with a minor in Psychology. I am applying to medical school this summer. I have three years of experience teaching Chemistry and Biology to undergraduates as a Supplemental Instruction Leader and Teaching Assistant in a upper divisions Cell Biology Laboratory. I am passionate about teaching science, especially Acid Base Chemistry, Metabolism, and Molecular Biology. I enjoy these subjects because I believe that all biological processes and physiology can be essentially explained through the principles of chemistry. Nothing excites me more than helping students grasp complex concepts and improve their grades. I tutor AP Biology, AP Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry, Genetics, various levels of Spanish, including AP Spanish Language, and AP Spanish Literature and Culture. I am a qualified Spanish tutor, not only because I am a native Peruvian speaker, but because I received a formal bilingual education where I received outstanding scores in both AP Spanish Language and Literature and Culture. In my spare time, I enjoy reading and tweeting about neuroscience, cooking, drawing, and running. In fact, I am currently training for the Nike Women's Half Marathon DC for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

"In learning you will teach, and in teaching you will learn." - Phil CollinsIf there is one thing you should know about me, it is that I LOVE learning. As a college student actively working towards my bachelors of science at Brigham Young University, I can honestly say that I've never been more excited about learning than I am right now. There is simply so much I don't know, and every day is a new opportunity to change that. My passion for growth has taken me to places like Spain, Mexico, and very soon, Ecuador. It has taught me a new language: Spanish, which I now speak fluently and which has become one of my two majors. It has even paid for my college education, and I am confident it will open many more doors for me in the future.I tutor because I want others to have what I have, and because I recognize the value of one-on-one instruction in an education system which has become altogether too streamlined and generalized to allow for any deep conceptualization without additional effort on the student's part. That's where I come in. My clients and I have a BLAST together, regardless of the topic, although some of my more popular subjects include Spanish, English, Essay Writing, and College Applications. I make sure to personalize each of my sessions to the client, and I really enjoy getting to know them and learning from everyone I teach.

I worked as a scientist in India for eleven years in the field of Biochemistry, Biology and Physiology. In Dec 2018, I moved to USA with my family. I am authorized to work in the United States.I have a vast experience in tutoring Biochemistry to undergraduate and graduate students. I also an experience of 5 years of teaching math to elementary level students in India. My 11 years of research experience in life sciences makes me the perfect person to learn science from. For each session, I also provide notes to the students so that they can go through them anytime they like. I make science fun to learn. Apart from the school coursework, I teach science by giving examples of scientific basis underlying our day-to-day activities too. I want students (and their families) to know that they are in contact with someone trustworthy. On personal front, I was born and raised in India. I did my BS in Biochemistry from Delhi University in 2005. Then I did my MS in Biochemistry from Jamia Hamdard University in 2007 where I was the university topper of my subject and earned a gold medal. Immediately after completing MS, I joined DIPAS as a junior scientist. I worked in DIPAS for 11 years as a scientist (Jan 2008 to Dec 2018). During this period I also enrolled for PhD (Biochemistry) and was successfully awarded the degree of PhD in 2013. I worked on different scientific projects related to Biochemistry, Biology and Physiology. I have published a number of research articles in International journals of repute. As a part of my job, I used to tutor Biology, Biochemistry and Physiology to undergraduate and graduate students. I also used to teach science and math to elementary level students in part time. Teaching is my hobby. I have a first grader at home and I teach her too. :)

I graduated in May of 2016 from Georgetown University with a Bachelor of Science degree. I majored in Biology of Global Health and minored in Theology. My teachers throughout high school and college have been some of the most influential people in my life. They have inspired me to to work with students to help them better understand their interests, take advantage of opportunities, and reach their full potential. During my senior year at Georgetown, as part of a thesis project, I taught 10th grade biology twice a week to students in a DC public high school. Through this experience, I learned a lot about how to identify individual students needs and tailor my teaching style accordingly.I enjoy dancing (namely hip hop), music, and playing sports.
