Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We reviewed power series, including Taylor and Maclaurin series, error estimation, and applications in preparation for the student's exam tomorrow. She has a very good understanding of the material and I expect her to do well tomorrow."
"First the student wanted to look at his Algebra 2. The assignment covered using Pascal's triangle to determine the expanded equation of a binomial raised to a power. He did a great job following the formula and writing out each term (Pascal term)(a term)(b term). He did not have any difficulty until the last 3 problems when the question asked him to find only one term in the equation. He momentarily had trouble understanding what power should be used with the a term and what power with the b term. Next he asked to look at Chemistry. He was working with rate law. First he needed to determine k then apply it. He was also given a problem with concentrations and the rates, and he needed to determine the order for each chemical in the reaction."
"We covered gradients and 3D representations of shapes, as well as inequalities and the domains of those functions. We discussed what the bounds on the domain of any function and how to recognize the equality that relates to each specific function (ln, sqrt, denominator). The student seems to be getting the material well and passed the quizzes I gave her throughout the session."
"In my first session with the student, we went over what he was looking to get out of our sessions and what he was struggling with in statistics. His class is beginning to look at tests and accepting or rejecting statistical hypotheses. Additionally, the student wants to work on test prep for the math section of the SAT. He seems to pick up on concepts relatively quickly and I will have a better idea of where we need to focus on after next session."
"We worked on his final project of the semester which consisted of collecting data, forming a null and alternative hypothesis, performing a t-test, finding the confidence interval, p-value, and then drawing a conclusion about the data gathered."
"We went over his statistics homework including z tests, t tests and graphing. We defined multiple terms like standard deviation, nominal data, ratio data, etc. He has homework to look over that we finished. We are going to meet again within the next week or so."
