"Working on his homework, the student and I were able to go over a lot of verbs his teacher provided. Once we were done translating them, I chose a verb and wrote 5 different sentences in English that when translated to Spanish, would require knowledge of the preterite, imperfect, present progressive, future, and conditional tenses. It was really good practice for him as he was able to distinguish which tense belonged to what sentence."
"I helped the student get ready for a presentation where he needed to use past tense and vocabulary about shopping to discuss at least 7 items he purchased. He printed pictures of the items, converted their dollar amounts into Costa Rican colones, and created a receipt. We then made note cards with what he needed to say to describe each item and how it fit him."
"The student did very well on his first session. He was focused and very enthusiastic about Spanish. Tonight, we discussed and worked on an exercise that required reading a passage in Spanish and also answering questions in Spanish afterwards. I was able to develop a technique that worked well with him which was to read the passage in sections/ chunks and then dissect each paragraph by sentence. This enabled him to comprehend what he read better and write down essential information that he would use when answering the questions in the end. I recommend that he continue to use this technique moving forward."
"The student worked through her homework assignments regarding informal commands in Spanish. Since she had learned them in class earlier today, she seemed pretty confident with the material, only needing help with recalling the irregular conjugations. We also went over the new vocabulary words she had been learning throughout the past week, and she said she felt confident in the new words as well, having already made flashcards for them. She appears to be becoming more and more confident in her studies (not just including Spanish!), and I am very proud of how far she's come!"
"We started an additional topic on subjunctive. We looked at the rules and the new trigger words before starting practice problems. Then we moved ahead and looked at the next topic that will be discussed in class later this week (using 'se' as a 'no-fault'). We practiced a little without getting too far ahead."
"We covered department/clothing vocabulary. I included a review of the vocabulary words, and I left him homework."
