Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"During our session, we went over the different types of markets. We compared the characteristics of perfectly competitive, oligopolistic, monopolistic, and monopolistic competitive markets. We went over the graphs for perfectly competitive and monopolistic markets. The student seemed to have a good grasp of the concepts before our session-- she just needed a bit more clarification and some explanations of the graphs."
"During this session, the student had questions for exam prep. The questions covered aggregate demand and monetary system."
"Today we went over terms of trade, real gains from trade, and determining the international price. The student understood the material very well. I'll be meeting with her next week to go over homework and to test her on it."
"We went over supply and demand going through his homework for the week. Conceptually, he appears to understand the material once it is explained (we have gone a bit ahead of where they are in the classroom but on track with the syllabus/reading assignments). Despite proving the ability to master the problems, it seems he is not 100% confident in his math skills (in particular graphing). With this specific material, it is now just about repetition to become more confident because he knows how to do it."
"We went through analyzing a 10-k for an accounting project, and then moved on to economics. We went through practice problems for chapter 23 on real GDP and nominal and calculations for real CPI and nominal."
"Went through supply/demand curves for goods, externalities, monopolies, and production costs. Covered conceptual topics such as shifts in supply/demand curves, rival goods, and strategy for market entrance. Student struggles with graphing continued, though were remedied by introduction of conceptual focus. Student had a positive attitude towards the material covered. Strategies for studying included the use of mnemonics and big picture thinking. Extra practice was provided through university study page. Scores to note were perfect score on third assignment. Win for this session was improvement in student understanding of conceptual basis."
