Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"I helped guide the student through her homework on the area of circles and sectors. She understood it pretty thoroughly. After that, we looked at a test she got back on radicals and exponents. She is still a little unsure about rationalizing radicals but is much better overall."
"Today we worked on his AP test prep. I left him with two full pages of problems I wrote for him. Tomorrow is our last session."
"Today I met with the student to work on algebra two. Her class is focusing on graphing trig functions. I started with a brief explanation of the important properties of trig functions (for graphing) and then we dove in to practice problems. She was quickly comfortable with graphing sin, cos, and tan so we moved on to shifting and reflecting trig graphs. This proved a bit trickier, and we worked through a few more practice problems to really nail down how to shift cosines and tangents. At the end we worked backwards, identifying a formula through seeing a graph (which, we learned, is tricky because sines and cosines are identical). We also saw how to apply the idea of a trig graph to a problem involving triangles with variable edge length. She understood the material we worked on and intends to practice some more to get more comfortable (particularly with shifted cosines). I will see her again in about two weeks for our final session. We are planning for it to happen shortly before her final exam."
"The student and I reviewed for her unit test complex fractions, specifically A/S/M/D rational functions. We practiced finding LCM and did a number of practice problems, which she completed with ease."
"We did Order of Operations (OOO) practice problems. The student has the OOO down pat, but had some issues with mechanics that appeared to be directly related to organization. We discussed how to better organize math processes on scratch paper. We reviewed bivariate data, as that is what the student it's currently studying in class. The student is doing cumulative Science exams, so we reviewed test taking techniques and did 20 practice problems from the test's website."
"I worked with the student on her homework that reviewed conversions. She had many problems that took most of the hour. We also reviewed adding and subtracting fractions. We worked on word problems and how to find the information that she needs in the problem."
