Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Chemistry - Dimensional analysis. We completed half of a worksheet the student had for preparation for a test on Tuesday next week. I asked him to complete the other half by himself, as on Monday next week we will be reviewing material as well as a study guide for the test, and there is also a lab write-up he has due on Tuesday. History - Summarized the Articles of Confederation. He continues to have some trouble synthesizing information and putting it into his own words. He should practice identifying the most important phrases/words from a passage. I told him this would help as well for standardized test prep as he goes into his junior and senior years."
"Complementary and supplementary angles, vertical angles, and proofs were covered specifically. The student was focused on problem solving. I included the strategy of any complementary angle being 90 - x, and any supplementary angle being 180 - x. She understands complementary and supplementary angles well."
"Concepts covered include "If-->then" conditional statements, converse, inverse, and contrapositive statements, and giving reasons and counterexamples to prove true or false. Her attitude was good. I discussed strategies for deducting conclusions. I gave her suggestions for noting problems in her schoolwork this week, so we can work on them next week."
"Concepts covered include area of a circle and how to find the diameter when given the radius (vice versa). I feel like we had a major breakthrough today, and I hope to keep the momentum going next session. After getting past habits, student was able to see concepts better. Let's keep this going."
"Concepts covered include using graphing calculators (TI-83) to find the intersection coordinates of a variety of graphs with other graphs. Also, how to put absolute values into graphed equations as well as dealing with calculators and parentheses. This was a good session; he listened, applied the math, and submitted his quiz for 100%. Nice work."
"Continued our work with classification of angles and line intersections. Moved on to talk about The SI unit system, Dimensional Analysis, and Significant Figures. Although she struggled at times to pick up the concepts, he is starting to realize that it's because he's over thinking them a lot of the time, not necessarily that he doesn't understand what's happening. He was extremely motivated, and we had a great time working today."
