Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We met online and talked about how to improve on the SAT math portion. We started by talking about some generalized test taking strategies, and a couple specifics about the scoring and format of the SAT itself. After this, we went over sample problems that she had gotten wrong on her practice test. These dealt with the properties of triangles, circles, and parabolas, probability, and several word problems. She seemed much more confident about the test by the end of the session. We planned on scheduling another session probably in about a week."
"At the beginning of the session we went over the essay she wrote which was greatly improved in organization. There were some repetitive parts that I pointed out to her and she did say she ran out of time at the end so we talked about making her body paragraphs into four sentences only so that she could go faster. We worked on math the rest of the time. She seemed to be the most confused about the wording of the questions. We did more problems on the same topics, and after each session I will be emailing her some math terms that she tends to forget so that she can make them into flashcards."
"We went over the errors in the student's second practice SAT test, and I went over word root lists with her and described how to break down words into word parts to try and guess at their meanings for vocabulary questions. She does very well on the reading comprehension questions but loses a few points on the vocabulary. She was mostly unfamiliar with the idea of word roots/word families but seemed to catch on quickly. We also reviewed the math strategies of Plug In The Answer and Check Numbers."
