Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student did quite well with the material we covered on the summer school site. We did more work with the "Emotions and Colors" vocabulary as well as more work with the functions of the cases. I'm glad we were able to get some work in today."
"Today we opened (as usual) with some conjugation and declension charts for review. There were a couple mistakes, but nothing major. We then spent the rest of the session translating and parsing a passage. There was some new vocab I gave him, but he seemed to forget to check the list when he came across a new word. We did get through the whole passage, but the student still struggles greatly even with simple sentences. We will continue to work on this next session."
"Today, the student and I finished up second conjugation verbs. He seems to be understanding the repetitiveness of the present and perfect system. We addressed the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd principal parts of verbs. We also went over several dictionary terms and how to identify whether a word is a noun, adjective, or verb. Finally, he and I discussed the meaning of case, number, and gender for nouns. He expressed concern about not knowing what is expecting of him when questions on exams ask for those three traits of a noun. Furthermore, we discussed how to address questions that ask for tense, number, and person for verbs. Overall, this was a very productive session."
"Today, we went over a review of lessons 6-10. I assigned the students vocabulary and derivatives for homework. Then, we went over review questions and learned a hymn (only a snippet, because the whole hymn was far too long). They have good memory retention because the review questions didn't phase them. I gave them a brief history on Julius Caesar because their new practical Latin phrase is "Veni, vidi, vici." They had a lot of questions about him, so I'm glad they're engaged in history."
"Tonight the student and I went over passive periphrastic, future active participles, and multiple choice questions from an old assessment exam. We also focused on dum constructions, fearing constructions, the anticipatory subjunctive, and double datives. He did an excellent job tonight."
"We covered nouns, pronouns and adjectives today and we will continue with verbs next week. I assigned homework to identify all the nouns and adjectives in a sentence and the number, gender, and case of each."
