Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Yesterday, the two students and I began by working through another section of the critical reading SAT practice test book. We noticed that, as usual, most of the missed questions were related to unknown vocabulary words, so we decided to take the rest of the time in our session to focus on the vocabulary flashcards. We practiced association memorization, memory devices, and root word detection so that the words would "stick" better, and found that it was particularly helpful to use "sounds like" associations to help trigger definitions. I left the students with another section in the practice book to complete before our next session begins."
"Based on PSAT results, he is stronger in Math, however he did quite well today on the critical reading. On the math section, he clearly has a strong skill base but needs to take time. We will continue to work on strategies for word problems."
"Today we covered more of the critical reading section of the SAT, particularly passages, as well as reviewed the other sections. The student preformed very well on most questions, especially the writing section questions. All we have left to cover is the essay portion of the SAT, which I would like to cover during that next session. After that, most of her preparation will come down to taking practice tests and preparing herself mentally for the SAT, although I would like to get in one last review session before the SAT itself."
