Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we did a mixed review of algebra. We concentrated on areas that are weaker or that we did not have as much time to cover before. These areas include graphing quadratics, finding the formula of a quadratic or linear graph and factoring about grouping. We also discussed the introduction to geometry which the student is beginning. I am going to send her a few worksheets to keep reviewing the more challenging chapters of algebra. I will also send a mixed review of algebra so that she has to think of what to do without the problems being in the "chapter". I am also sending an introduction to geometry worksheet. (It will not be difficult yet as we did not go over it and she has yet to be introduced to it in class, but I want her to warm up to geometry and be ready when she starts in class.)"
"For today's tutoring session, the student and I did a final review of Chapter 5 in his algebra textbook. He informed me that he will be taking a test at school tomorrow on this specific algebra material. During today's review of Chapter 5 we reviewed the following algebra topics: 5.1 -- Exponents, 5.2 -- Adding and Subtracting Polynomials, 5.3 -- Multiplying Polynomials, 5.4 -- Special Products, 5.5 -- Negative Exponents and Scientific Notation, and 5.6 -- Dividing Polynomials. In addition to the algebra topics stated above, we also briefly reviewed Chapter 5 Vocabulary Terms. These chapter specific vocabulary words included: term, polynomials, coefficient, and degree of a term. We reviewed how to determine the width of a ping-pong table when the area is given and the length is given. We concluded today's tutoring session by reviewing using long division to divide by a polynomial. He is an excellent student with a very good math brain. He is always very attentive and focused on the task at hand. Thus our tutoring lessons are always very productive."
"We covered solving equations with variables on both sides using order of operations. We also worked on inverse operations and using the distributive property."
"The student completed her homework on exponential growth and completed practice problems for her exam on exponents."
"The student practiced for test on simplifying, adding, and subtracting radicals. We reviewed completing the square to convert quadratics into vertex form and reviewed properties of quadratics."
"She and I continued her practice exams. We covered graphing linear equations. She is continuing to make progress."
