Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student was preparing for a test in Geometry that she was nervous about taking. The specific topics covered on the test will be calculating the midpoint and the distance between two or three coordinates. The student said the area she was struggling with in this concept was when to apply each formula. During the session she went through practice problems from her homework sheets provided by the school and we focused on problems that she did not understand how to approach or begin. The area that I believe will need extra focus is with word problems. When the problem is presented in a skills format she has no problem completing the answer, however, when given a word problem she has trouble finding direction."
"The student worked on her review worksheet (simplifying expressions) in preparation for her quiz on Thursday. She needs to complete the memorization of the factoring formulas for the sum and difference of perfect cube expressions. We also discussed test-taking strategies to help her make the most efficient use of her time."
"The student worked on her science homework, which is of course all about math. We covered dimensional analysis, in which you use conversion factors, how to use conversion factors, which units you want to end up in, where to start, etc. We also talked about significant figures and scientific notation, both of which are crucial skills that she will need in all her science classes. She was really on fire today and picked things up very quickly, which is great to see."
"The student worked on more proofs on her homework and learned about the midpoint formula. She is able to go through the proofs on her own mostly. We talked a little bit about biology and what her interest is for an experiment/report that she will have to do."
"The student worked through her homework problems on perpendicular lines & angle bisectors. In this lesson, students were introduced to a new level of problem-solving. They must figure out the steps in a multi-step problem without being told that there are multiple parts to a problem. When we worked through the problems together, she understood it."
"The student, her classmate, and I worked on their homework assignment. We worked through problems that involved finding the nth term based on a table of values. Overall, it was a successful session, and she understood the problem solving process behind these problems."
